I know the kid is only 20 now and 19 last year but this quote from Bednar is why Avs fans are so high on Byram who I think is a cross between Duncan Keith and Scott Niedermeyer. And he is being paired with Makar and will be paired with Makar long term who is the Avs version of Doughty.
"Question: Over 26 minutes for Bowen Byram… did you know that he would be this useful and have trust to use him this much this early in his career?
Answer: No. Nope. Not based on what I saw last season or even rookie camp or training camp. Credit to Bo - I know his history, I’ve watched him play I’ve seen what he’s done but I also know a lot of young players come in and become… it’s more difficult than what you think it’s going to be. But Bo has made the adjustments, he’s put in the work and his style fits the pro style. He’s a physical guy, a competitive guy, a confident guy, and it shows. He was fantastic tonight. That’s why he played 26 minutes, it’s hard to keep him off the ice when he’s playing like that and he seems to be getting… and really it was almost like a switch for me day one of regular season. He had a slow camp, I didn’t love him in exhibition, his game seemed confident but pretty casual not making a huge impact. We had some conversations, Pratter and him, me and him, and he snapped out of it right away. Good example for the young guys of you got to push yourself out of your comfort zone, you can’t play in your comfort zone. Our comfort zone right now is, our game is too slow."

Word is no supplemental discipline for Duhaime, no surprise there.
I don't see the difference between the Landeskog hit on Dach which got Landeskog 2 games and this hit... I guess Byram getting up and being after Duhaime if it hadn't been for Mackinnon getting there first is the reason why?
And I was okay with Landeskog getting 2 games for that hit, I knew it was coming as soon as I saw it.

4-5-1 to start the year, I know the team hasn't had a full lineup yet but they had 3 guys back tonight and looked horrible- it's time to fire Bednar, after last year's failure he should have been fired.

Kuemper isn't out long term and Francouz had a shutout in his rehab assignment with the Colorado Eagles last night.. Antunnen has played well in the AHL and backed up okay last night after coming in cold. As long as Johanssen is the 4th option Avs are set in goal, Sakic has other areas to shore up.

Defensive play could be better I suppose but scoring 76 goals in their last 14 games makes up for it.
I just wish the Avs could ice their actual full lineup but if it has to be in the playoffs then so be it.

I guess I'm the only Avs fan on here
After watching Games 1 and 2 between Tampa and NYR at MSG I honestly thought the Avs were going to be facing the Rangers if they got there but ...sigh... it is Tampa that the Avs are facing.
I suppose if the Avs are going to win the Cup it might as well be against the defending champs.
The Rangers ran out of gas in that series- the Avs have to use their speed and I imagine they'll use their series against the Blues as a reference point as that team is probably the closest comparible of the three teams they beat to Tampa Bay.

Nichushkin back for 8 years at $6.125 M a season. Seems like a huge commitment to a guy with 122 pts in 343 games before last year. He was basically a 30 point a year guy previously.
