anyone give a rundown what the issue here is without posting a bunch of links?? It seems like the whole St. John's arena situation has been a mess going back to when SJSE lost out on the Q expansion team to the Dobbin group ... so I would say dysfunctional municipal politics is at the heart of the dispute. That said, I don't all of the details - the Growlers owner (Dean MacDonald) was negotiating to buy Mile One from the City and it recently fell through, there was basketball team that he owned as well that I believe was evicted earlier when SJSE got a new team in a different league. Following the breakdown of the sale, SJSE has "temporarily" booted the Growlers pending an investigation into claims that members of Deacon Sports have been acting in an an abusive/harassing manner to SJSE staff ... To put how odd this is in context - Dean MacDonald, and before him, the Dobbins, are among the richest and most successful business people in Newfoundland. It would be as though a municipal government in NB spent years feuding with the Irvings and McCains (so pretty much the opposite of what happens here with many accusing the government of bowing to whatever those families want).

And, the current owner says he is going to build a new arena to move the team and his basketball team into. Not sure why he'd build it in Newfoundland if he was ready to build one ... why not build one in say Fredericton or some Ontario community and eliminate the flight costs to get on and off the Rock. The whole thing is a soap opera between big egos ... and the City has become part of it. I'm not sure why anybody would want to have a team in St. John's after this shit show. They seem to be impossible to deal with. So the Growlers are now going to play out of the same rink that the Toronto Marlies play out of ... in the meantime.

Sorry bois, found an interesting article and thought people might want to have a read. Can't say more than what others have said. It seems like the municipal government of St. John's have a "you're lucky we let you play here" attitude towards both amateur and pro sports teams playing at Mile One. They've had quite a few major tenants in the last 15 years that seem to have been successful, only to get in some sort of disagreement with the city and ultimately move on. With the inherent travel issues franchises face in St. John's, it's hard enough to run a successful franchise without the city constantly bickering about one thing or another. That being said, if there is in fact abuse taking place, it should be investigated, and appropriate action taken. It just seems like based on the reply from the Growlers that there's more going on here.

2 + 2 = ?
SJSE basically forcing out existing tenant + Rumors that Titan are done in Bathurst = Return of the Q to NFLD?
Remember, way back when the Q originally expanded, SJSE wanted the team for themselves ... maybe they see an opportunity to acquire the Titan and finally have their own team to play in their own building ...

Seating capacity at CBS arena is 1065 and was opened in 2016. Article mentions one of the preparations for the Growlers playing in CBS was having to reschedule 6 children's birthday parties. The parties will be hosted at the Avalon Mall with a visit from the Growlers' mascot, and the Birthday child gets a Growler's jersey with their name on the back. Friggin awesome.
