With the Beijing Winter Olympics quickly closing in - what does everybody think they should do?
Hope Omicron is the beginning of the end of COVID and blows over by February for the most part?
Take the bubble approach while there might still be time?
Call it off?
Kick it off and possibly abort mid-Olympics?
It's easy to wait until it starts and then tell everybody what they should have done - like with the World Junior tournament.
My opinion is that they should go through with it at this point in time - cross our fingers - and play it out - even if everybody else pulls out along the way and China wins every medal by forfeit.
There are a lot of smart people here on this forum. I really enjoy hearing about the opinions and ideas I'm unable to think of myself.
There's no local hockey - but this forum has been moving at an incredible pace lately - wicked really!

No but the people believing the one that had Fred Brathwaite as one of the goalies was quite funny.

So - did anybody figure out if that was the real Canadian roster posted yesterday?
If so - that might be the weakest Canadian Olympic team since the 1960's.

I'd say its on par with our last Olympic team. I think the Olympic polish is worn off a bit with no NHL'rs. Throw some skiing and speed skating on my TV and i'll eat it up. But I'll have lots of NHL to occupy me over the Olympic hockey tournament.

I don't know if I'm in the majority with this opinion, but all I want to see is a best-on-best hockey tournament every four years. I don't care if it is at the Olympics or with a World Cup in August. Just put Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, and two of whoever is better out of Germany, Switzerland or Slovakia in one pool. Everyone plays everyone once. Top 4 teams make semi-finals. Finals is a best of 3. That's it. No world team, no U24 team. Just one tournament every once in a while for hockey superiority.
Every major sport played globally has a best-on-best tournament. Baseball has the World Cup... they don't need the Olympics. Basketball has the Summer Olympics and it works for them. Soccer has the World Cup and Euro... and also doesn't need the Olympics. Hockey's world championship is entertaining, but a farce... and its Olympics are just the best of the rest. Why is it so difficult to bring hockey players back every 4th August for one big tournament for bragging rights? They'll get the TV ratings if they do it right.

Why is it so difficult to bring hockey players back every 4th August for one big tournament for bragging rights? They'll get the TV ratings if they do it right. There's no reason it cant go a step further and be a World Cup with a worldwide round robin to help grow the game and similar to Soccer you can do a bidding process to host the playoff round. Get Toronto, New York, LA, Montreal, Chicago bidding as cities to host the best hockey players in the world. The NHL does little to nothing to grow its game in my opinion. The NFL with ZERO players from Europe does more to grow its European presence even during covid than the NHL does during non-covid times while a large portion of its players come from Europe. Everyone pats Bettman on the head for revenue growth. Completely ignoring many facts about how compared to the major 4 sports he's done little to improve the NHL's brand in North America and meanwhile there's global money completely pissed away through inaction on the leagues part when it comes to stuff like best on best tournaments. But look at what the NHL accepts from its Canadian broadcast partner as a product right now. Rogers broadcasts are starting to border on absolutely unwatchable to me when there isn't a hockey game on the screen. The pre game, intermissions, and post game stuff is really hard to watch. Never has it seemed like we've had fewer faces on our TV yet it also seems like we've never had more generic and downright poor TV personalities either. You'd think the model would be a slimmer down number of analysts but the ones you do get being the best in the business. But that definitely isn't the case when it comes to whatever they're calling Hockey Night In Canada these days.

Curling and figure skating too. I also appreciate all the smaller sports who get little press for 3 years and 11 months of their lives yet become icons overnight.

I like short track. It's feisty - and Canada always seems to have top three finishers in everything. Snowboarding looks really hard to do - at that level. You need to be one with your board. I'd probably need to be high on dope to be any good at it.

I watched some of the X Games this weekend, some of the shit those guys are doing is incredible.

Kind of cool to see quite a few former Q players on Team Canada.
