Wonder if there is some inside intel that the season may be cancelled? A number of AUS players have left school and signed with pro teams in the last week or so ...

I would say you're bang on.
Not like there's money to be made at that level by waiting it out.
The risk far outweighs any benefit for the schools I would say.

The expectation from what I understand is that the season/nationals is going to be cancelled and players are bailing now because of it. Whether that happens or not is up in the air but the players/teams are fully expecting it.

UPEI were just having an OK season.....but they had some talented players.
1st year player, Danil Antropov, son for former Leaf Nik Antropov, got off to a slow start but started to improve before the break.
Former Charlottetown Islander import player, Filip Rydström, has been a strong player for the Panthers since he joined. 65pts in 83gp.
Some people, not all, forget just how strong of a league this is....so many very talented players.

For players who can't crack the AHL and want an education, CIS makes a lot more sense than ECHL, you get an education, basically paid for with Q money plus team bursaries for major junior players, and you have as much of a chance at playing in the NHL as ECHL guys.

I know many who wish CBU would get back into it and offer some local kids who never played junior here an option to come home and play while going to school. It seemed like a natural evolution to me once the Q came here 25 years ago but it never happened. I wish we had it as an option.

I think the problem becomes do you end up like Dalhousie/STU/UdeM or can you do a good enough job recruiting now to ice a competitive team.. it’s tough sledding but kids want to play in the AUS and another option in NS might not be bad.
