With his 2 goals last night, he now has 766 tying him for 3rd overall in career goals with Jaromir Jagr. He now sits 35 goals behind Mr Hockey Gordie Howe and 128 behind the Great One Wayne Gretzky.
I was never an Ovi fan and hate the idea that he may one day surpass both of these great hockey Icons.
And this has nothing to do with the fact that he is Russian. I respect the fact that once that puck is on his stick - watch out - he is a tremendous goal scorer but the admiration stops there.
Anyone else feel this way?

He is losing respect from a lot of people. Every minute that goes by in which his Instagram profile picture is him and Putin, lowers my respect for him.

I've never minded him until recently with the political stuff.
Always respected how hard he played the game.
He and Crosby had a lot of haters when they came in for some reason. McDavid certainly doesn't seem to have near the hate that Crosby especially seen and still sees from some.
Hard to respect athletes who show questionable moral character though. That's why Ovechkin is falling from grace now...is it fear? Is it from coming from a vastly different culture? I'm thinking more and more lately that it's a bit of both. But it's more telling to me that right and wrong are not ever factored in to it due to the Russian factor which none of us can empathize with or relate too unless you're one of the ones out "freedom fighting" as we tend to not poison, murder, or imprison people speaking out against political policy in most cases.
Apparently a few NHL Russian born players had a group chat trying to determine how to word something that would basically be pro-Ukraine and anti-war but they could never agree on how to word it. This is where an Ovechkin needs to show leadership as essentially the face of his country in his sport due to his standing as an all time great.
