I guess the pandemic has kind of killed the dreams of the CFL expanding this way any time soon. Always seem to be a pipe dream full of obstacles...but I still hope one day to see a stadium in the region that can host larger events.

At least it's a good way to keep their foot in the door and drum up a bit of interest.

I think this is their most hare-brained Maritime scheme yet ... what possible upside is there to having a game in a community as small as Wolfville? I have long been skeptical of any CFL success in the Maritimes, period, however if they are going to do a neutral site game in the Maritimes it should at least be in a bigger centre like Halifax or Moncton where they have a hope in hell of making some money??

I really dont get it. I dont see how it helps anything by having a game in such a small town and stadium. You'll get some die hards from each team but there's zero community/regional impact and zero fans to create that I can see. But everything the CFL does makes no sense to me. The TSN contract has been the worst and best thing for the league. Best in that it keeps bills paid. But I think the worst aspect is its killed any attempts to think outside the box to keep growing their league. It's a western league that eastern teams support when successful but Toronto and Montreal could not care less about those franchises when they're mediocre and the league does very little to change that narrative.

I'm a pretty big sports fan. I think it would be neat to have a CFL team. I probably wouldn't go to many games though, and honestly I think I'd rather Halifax/Nova Scotia build a new 16,000 seat hockey arena rather than a football stadium. That would get more use for concerts, big Mooseheads/Thunderbirds games etc.
Just happened to come across this tweet. Acadia will have 10,000 seats for the game this summer.

That Main St in Wolfville can be crazy busy on a good day. It is going to be gridlock for that game. IMO.

I’m sure they can talk to a farmer somewhere and get a field but it’s just not set up for it.

It's not about making money. It's about publicity and building a dream.
If it were in Halifax or Moncton it would still be 10000 fans and nobody else would care. Except for what we see on the evening news about it which we will all get to see no matter where they play it.
Actually being in a small town it will be a spectacle and will be talked about.
The fans who go to Wolfville will mostly drive an hour or two to get there. So they will count that as momentum.
Whatever happens in this region with CFL wherever dust settles on a permanent franchise I think it's going to be some type of improvised stadium for a few years. Maybe a wanderers ground or other temporary field until the rest of us buy in.
It's risky. The CFL is a risky league to spend much capital to attract. So makeshift gets the wheels going.
Acadia is as makeshift as can be but they are selling regional buy-in. Long term they will need Halifax. A one hour drive to the valley may work for 9 games a year. At first this is just for hard core CFL followers. CFL is not a major league.
