"You better be prepared to get punched in the mouth." is what the announcer said.
Some people seem to infer that he is saying "You deserve to get punched in the mouth." If that's his intent then I disagree with him.
But I don't know that that's necessarily what he was implying. Saying you should expect something (based on years of observing certain behaviour) doesn't necessarily mean you agree with said behaviour.
Edit - Just went back and listened to the part before that. Heard the same guy say "I love it." So yeah he did seem to approve of the behaviour after all.

Heard the same guy say "I love it." So yeah he did seem to approve of the behaviour after all. Absolutely he was approving of it all...except the garbage effort by the terrible organization down 5-0 against a rebuilding team who traded vets away at the deadline. If you break it down the "poke" at the puck by Terry was in the act of the play and wasn't even after the whistle. In front Zegras gets cross checked but actually held up a bit as he could have let his momentum take him right onto the goaltender. Then Fowler skated in after the cross check and Beagle ended up fighting Terry. While Boyd went after others. And the announcer says "Thats the problem sometimes with these young players. You want to embarrass guys. If you want to skill it up you better be prepared to get punched in the mouth" It seems pretty clear that the punch to the mouth the announcer believe their team is entitled to is because of how Anaheim scored one of its goals. Not THAT they scored. Or that they rubbed it in with cockiness or celebrations. We're literally saying that the Michigan goal should come with a punch to the mouth because its embarrassing. And that Terry's injury is somehow his own fault because "good for Jay Beagle, he's a veteran player who has been around for a long time. He's seeing these young kids dance around, these fancy moves..." Then "...5-0 Ducks late 3rd" That "young kids dance around, these fancy moves" part is fucking disgusting. The NHL should actually stand up against that type of commentary as its literally saying great job 4th line hack who can't score any goals for beating up on the skilled kids pulling these fancy moves. Those young kids are up 5-0 and dominating the worst organization in pro sports and somehow being vilified by NHL announcers for playing how they do because they score "fancy goals". The more I watch and break it down the more frustrated I get by it. Lets ruin someones life with a bad concussion because they were fancy and skilled against me is a terrible hill for a pro sport to die on. The NHL can and should do better.

guess i'd have to see what else happened in the game..... but i'm not terribly interested in an Anaheim-Arizona contest so no chance of that
i still say it is likely that the frustration levels were high because of what the announcer alluded to..... which means he was probably right.... doesn't mean i agree with the outcome at all
anyways this is definitely too much time spent on two terrible teams..... lol

It seems like thats what is driving this and that we're supposed to believe that for 2.5 periods or so the Arizona team was so embarrassed at being scored on like they did that they were out for revenge and Anaheim should have seen it coming. And that someone who didn't score the goal being punched is just a young team who should know better and that the announcer putting it that way is perfectly fine because in the announcers eyes that 1st period goal really embarrassed the Coyotes and why they were down 5-0. I'm still missing how the announcer was right. I hear it as someone doubling down on 2 wrongs and somehow the 3 wrongs being a right. The 3 being that the Michigan was showboating, that the Ducks should have seen it coming, and that there's some code that means you cant score like that.

www.dailyfaceoff.com/burnside-tyson-nash-explains-his-controversial-call-on-the-jay-beagle-troy-terry-fight/Too much cringe in here to name it all. Apparently Zegras being on the ice at all was an issue. The NHL should expand the rosters so when teams go up by 5 they can make the other feel better by rolling out lines 5 and 6. Beagle isn't dirty but also didn't know who he was fighting...yet we're also wired to believe vets like Beagle always know who they're fighting as a part of "the code" they follow. And at the end the Terry fight was about chirps and smirks by the team up 5-0. Not the Michigan goal. But how the young team winning the game was happy about it and showing it in a battle between 2 below average organizations. Still seems like an argument where 1 side is arguing that the sore loser is entitled to punching someone in the face in response to being outplayed outworked and outscored by their opponent.

Says more about these teams and their situation. They are not playoff teams. That incident is their narrative for the season. There is nothing wrong with taking exception to a late poke at the goalie. Or being upset that someone tries a trick skill shot in a game that means nothing with a score that is lopsided. But a good rule of conduct which you need to buy into for self preservation and legacy is "respect your opponent". Don't poke at the goalie when he covered the puck and you lead by a few goals. Don't embarrass an opponent by doing something fancy when they are having an awful night in a bad season. Last week Halifax lost to Bathurst 11-2. Bathurst was going out of their way not to rub it in more. Not to embarrassed them more. They were tapping pads on opponents after the whistle because we all have been on that end of an embarrassing loss on home ice before. It was in the Titans best interest to not excessively demoralize the Mooseheads. They rolled 4 lines and didn't dig more for puck or try trick plays. Didn't even try to get their two candidates for hat tricks their 3rd goals. And how did it help Bathurst? They won anyway. They didn't get any extra suspensions or injuries (they had a player ejected before the score got ugly). Not deflating Halifax more actually helped Halifax pick up their sticks and go on a killer week beating SJ once and Charlottetown twice. All things that benefit the Titan. Respect is never a bad thing in sports. If it's a 2-1 game then balls to walls take no prisoners. Have fun and make them lose their cool. But when it's a fait accomplis maybe dial it back. Next time it might be you on the other end of it. But it was 11-2. By continue to score didn't they purposely keep embarrassing the other team? Or can I score 20 goals on you as long as I congratulate you for letting me and don't celebrate when I score? Or can I still celebrate my 7th, 8th, 9th goals and your goal still be to not let me without using illegal actions to prevent me and cross the line with major penalties because your ego is bruised because your team isnt playing all that well? I really think we're making it all way too difficult than it has to be. Unless the 5-0 or 11-2 goal came with sucker punch or dirty spear or nasty stick swinging incident can we not treat it like a 3-0 goal and go back to center and keep playing? Why do we suddenly need to start over analyzing body language and people having fun and suddenly make it about respect? If you're down 11-2....its not the 11 disrespecting the game necessarily. Respect has to be shown by all 40 players dressed in the game for the entire game. And answering disrespect with more disrespect doesn't somehow equal more respect. Especially when its perceived disrespect and not even anything blatant and over the top like this situation seemed to be. literally went from a closer game was 4-1 entering the 2nd period to basically 8-1 in a span of 3 minutes and then had 35 more minutes of game time remaining. The 11-2 is deceptive. Some arsehole home fans were giving the goalie the Bronx cheer...to rub salt in I feel the Titan really let off the next 35 minutes. They didn't set out to embarass the other team. That's completely what I mean. I have seen games like that become slugfest when winning isn't in question. It has more to do with the team and what their end goal is now that winning isn't in doubt.

Maybe soon the only valid way to score if its a 3+ goal lead will be to bang in a rebound in front of a slapshot from the point? That's real hockey right there. People often forget also that players are out there playing for various reasons, performance bonuses, more playing time ..or maybe im crazy here but.. to impress the fans who paid hard earned dollars to watch them. The idea that players shouldn't give it their all to score so Jay Beagle isnt offended is comical.

It has more to do with the team and what their end goal is now that winning isn't in doubt. We're also raising this generation to not view the 11 goals as an insult. 20 years ago it seemed to be a sure thing that if someone hit 8+ goals that there would be fights and shenanigans. But now there's not 2 goons at the end of every bench a coach can call on to "settle the score" so we end up with a calmer game most of the time. But I do think its changes we're instilling in that next generation. People can call it soft if they like but it certainly won't lead to the list of enforcers we've seen commit suicide and suffering after their careers end. We also, knock on wood, don't seem to have near the major incidents or injuries as we used to see. And I think it all goes right back to dressing the best 18 skaters vs the best 15 and 3 guys who can police the sport who never policed anything...they were the ones committing most of the crimes or pouring gasoline on a few sparks and causing chaos. Many here fondly remember the days of CB/Hal 20 years ago with Lahache, Morency, Davis, Greenouch, Laraque...but due to incidents and suspensions. Not wins/losses even though a couple of them played in a close series between the 2. At least now the rivalries might not be as explosive but fans memories won't mainly be those incidents which in the big picture I do think is a positive and in the future we'll be even better for it as a sport.

I think we all know the answer. The idea that a team up 4-5 goals is smiling and trash talking isn't the insult that people seem to think it is. I sat at a Q game on Saturday afternoon and checked an NHL score as it went from 6-2 to 6-6 in about 15 minutes. Too bad Florida didn't get down 4 and start concerning themselves with the smiles of NJ or that Atlantic division would be even tighter today.

Ill give the guy who was actually there the benefit of the doubt here. What doubt? The guy there says the team up 5 goals was smirking and trash talking and deserved it. The discussion seems to be whether smirking and trash talking deserve to be gooned up not whether there's doubt or not that the team up 5 goals was pleased with their own efforts.

Tyson Nash has had some bad calls over the years, probably because he was a guy who had to fight to stay in the league. It doesn’t mean his opinion is wrong, it’s just his opinion. Take it for what it’s worth. I personally love seeing the lacrosse goal and skilled plays. It’s not even so much the lacrosse play that I was impressed with but the between the legs shot Zegras had then to pick the puck up and do that all on the move, totally incredible. Zegras has a swagger, people probably won’t like him but I love the kid. He’s got future NHL superstar written all over him. You’re winning 5-0 having a good night out there, you deserve to be able to smirk and trash talk. If the other team doesn’t like being “embarrassed” then play better. This isn’t timbits hockey, you don’t need to make everyone feel good about themselves. They’re professionals being paid a professional wage. So go out there and play like it. Beagle isn’t a dirty player though, I also don’t think the incident is because of the skill plays… more likely just a guy who reached his breaking point during a long season and during a scrum, he chose to take it out on Terry.
