Same situation for me but I find the Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa bdcst when playing Washington better. Any other national bdcst like HNIC is worse. True, the more localized broadcasts can be great. I love Joe Beninati, Craig Laughlin, and Alan May for the Caps. I find they do a really good job with their commentary without being too biased, and they aren't afraid to compliment the opposing teams for their good play too. Now the NESN broadcast...well...I'd honestly rather go deaf. The best post game is with Ben Raby on the Caps radio feed. But yeah Alan May is really good in studio analyst. Thing is all these guys you listed Laughlin, May etc, bleed caps colors and have grown with the franchise for 35-40 years. And so they will always be best analysts and voices for that franchise. I pre-date every one of them as a fan having grown up with only Ron Weber as the voice in the early 80s when I got a good radio signal on game night. The fear is as guys move on they get replaced with "red-rocker types" who didn't follow hockey before the Ovi "Young gun era" 2007 + and that's what happens to ruin the delivery of product.

Like I did become a fan around 2006 when Ovi came into the league, so obviously the pre-Ovi era doesn't have as much as an impact on me as it would've had on you. But I still know a fair bit about the team's past and I appreciate the progress they've made as a franchise. As for Sportsnet, they really do need to fix it. I feel like they're just trying too hard in areas that don't matter, which naturally takes away from things they should be focused on.

If you must do gambling talk, this Eastlink level of production isn’t the way to do it. Look at how Button and Kouleas weave it in on their podcast. There are many forms of gambling talk out there, any gambler would tell you Cabbie and that dude provide 0 value. What a joke.
The panels suck because their are too many voices. Botterill is terrible, she is captain obvious. Cheryl Pounder has been amazing at the Memorial Cup.
I used to listen intently way back when it was just McLean and 1 expert during the second intermission.
Just get Amber/MacLean with Bieksa. Have a short segment with Friedman to get the latest gossip. That would be very watchable and would have a point, instead of disjointed serious panels of everyone trying to get their shit in.
The TNT style is the most entertaining, and sports is entertainment. This is probably my favourite model. An all serious panel as we see on Sportsnet is the drizzling shits.

If the gambling stuff is going to be integrated....Sportsnet has like 6 channels to utilize...do an all gambling broadcast like the Manning broadcast of MNF. Integrate the personalities (Cabbie, Dangle, etc) but also hire some actual sports betting experts and during the pre-game talk money line / prop trends and intermissions can be to talk about best live in game options for that game and others. But the current model of pushing +500 lines in a 45 second segment is nothing but a joke.
