Daigle and Siciliano pleaded guilty to sexual assault this afternoon. Daigle is also guilty of taking a video of the assault and distributing it. He showed the video to teammates and a coach. The 17 yo employee of the hotel had agreed to meet Daigle in his room in the evening but she never agreed to have intercourse with both players. She felt forced to do it and Daigle took a video without her knowing about it. Their lawyers had tried to convince the judge to discard the content of Daigle’s cellphone with the video evidence and text messages. They argued that the cellphone was taken illegally by police but the judge decided to allow this evidence. The trial was set to begin yesterday but it was paused immediately and they decided to plead guilty. The good thing with morons is they always leave indisputable proof of their crime. Bravo boys, easy case. Now we will see if they get a slap on the wrist (most likely) or will the judge throw some hard time at them.

Edit: Sorry, to clarify, the prosecutor indicates he will likely seek jail time ... the actual sentence is not yet known.

www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/former-qmjhl-players-guilty-plea-sexual-assault-1.6992903From a league perspective, I find the comment about the Victo team member advising Daigle to delete the video VERY troubling ... if team officials knew about what happened, and did anything other than promptly report it to police, there should be heavy consequences to the individuals and the organization IMO. This is potentially on the Chicago Blackhawks scale of infractions. You can't 100% stop players/other employees from doing bad things - but covering them up absolutely needs to stop.

Speaking of culture problem - I cannot fathom a situation in which a teenage boy would feel like he should be showing a video like that to a coach. Like, obviously it makes it worse that it's sexual assault, but like... even if it was completely consensual, why the fuck is a teenage boy showing a video of himself and his buddy engaged in sexual intercourse with another person, especially when at least one participant was legally underage. Obviously coaches and players should have a friendly relationship, but they should be somewhere between mentor figures and parental figures, in no universe should they be a person who you're comfortable showing your home made porn to . Even as someone who considers herself sex-positive, like could you imagine thinking it's a good idea to show something like that to say, your supervisor at work? Because that'd be the comparable here. I feel bad even bringing this up because the focus should definitely be on the sexual cohesion/assault aspect of this and the well-being of that young woman, but I can't help but think about the fact that this is layers of messed-up.

Whatever happened to those 5 Canadian World Junior Players that were apparently supposed to have been charged just recently ? At this point my only conclusion is that once some big event happens you'll see a Friday afternoon news dump of what the NHL investigation found and who is punished to try and lessen the blow. Reality is that its not all that hard to figure out who is involved.

Makes you wonder if the NHL Clubs knew what was gonna come down the pipes and they somehow squashed it . So did names leak out before those to be charged were supposed to be but it never happened ?

Comtois, a young skilled player is currently without a team....for a reason But yet he was given a PTO. I personally don’t think that’s why he doesn’t have a contract, I think it’s because he’s not good enough to warrant one. His play has been extremely lack lustre and there’s been no progress to his game. I’d say a guy like Formenton is probably the example to use here, he’s basically fallen off the face of the earth and no one even brings his name up. The fact is though, these teams (all pro teams) can all preach about their morality and how they need to do right but if the player is good enough, they’re getting another contract. It’s the borderline guys that lose their spots in these leagues but no one turns away bonafide legit players.

I don't think the NHL has any control over when the news comes out. I agree that if they did they'd try to slip it under the radar on a big news day, but I don't know that the police care about NHL pr.

The adults in this story don’t look good right now but we don’t have the whole story. Maxime Pellerin’s mom saw the video and asked if it was her son. She asked them to erase the video. Her husband is the team’s president. Victo’s GM Kevin Cloutier had also seen the video and heard recordings made by Siciliano. They were both on the list as witnesses in the trial.

Formenton just re-signed with Ambri Piotta in Switzerland until December with an opt out clause to return to the NHL.

He had a PTO with Vegas and was let go. As of now, nobody wants anything to do with him

The NHL is so frustrating in how they deal with things and what they choose to enforce. Look at Chicago. You have New Jersey and Arizona getting severely punished for non issues, but Chicago get awarded a generational talent for covering up and even allowing more rapes to happen with their refusal to deal with a problem.
