The Habs may not finish last again this season.......but you should think they are a team close to the bottom 5.

Where would you select the Russin kid? Very very tough one. Based on the current world climate I think he'll go closer to 10 than 1st. This draft might have 5-6 top 3 caliber players though which helps him slide. Bedard Fantili Yager Michkov Carlsson plus guys like Dvorsky Gauthier having great starts and rising. Draft is very forward heavy. www.eliteprospects.com/draft-center/2023/tsn-bob-mckenzie

Where would you select the Russin kid? I think if you’re just looking at it from a talent perspective he’s number 2 with Fantilli on his heels, you could look at the positional value of having a C and bump Fantilli up and I wouldn’t complain. Michkov’s issue is going to be a real lack of viewings, no opportunity to compete against his peers in best on best and maybe the biggest hurdle, the 3 years remaining on his contract past this season. I think the kids supremely talented but what team picking at the bottom is interested in waiting 3 years before a kid comes over? I don’t know many at the very bottom that will… when you start getting into 5-6-7-8 then you’re possibly looking at that timeline anyways and not near the same talent/potential as Michkov. If you’re a GM who thinks he’s on the hot seat, you can’t wait. If you’re a team trying to sell tickets, then it’s an even tougher sell waiting on that kid. I think he’s going to go lower then he should but I can’t blame the teams either because it’s hard to commit to waiting on that kid, unless you’re a team with a solid fan base and a GM with a relatively safe job who can afford to wait 3-4 years on a top talent.

Would Michkov be a player that the Habs may be intrigued by?
Give the kid 3 years playing in the KHL then bring him over when his contract is up when he's 20?
