Drake Batherson is one that comes to mind.

Speaking of U17's ......can't see how that Will Shields Kid from The Eagles was not invited . This Kid is gonna be a Dandy . could say the same about Alexis Michaud and Marcus Kearsay from the Isles but then i'm not familiar enough with the guys they actually did choose to say much I think the odd thing with Shields is that Desruisseaux did go. Don't get me wrong, I think Desruisseaux is as good a prospect as Shields, but Shields has had a better start to this season. Like someone else already said, I don't think early season performance had much to do with how these teams were picked. But out of those two I was surprised it wasn't Shields.

I'm sure when he's 19 he will be one of the top guy's in the league. The other side of the coin though is look at Fillion, another highly drafted and highly touted goalie and he hasn't lived up to his potential. So anything can happen.

Speaking about Filion, I thought he would do well enough to be #1 in Quebec but he lost his spot to our 17 yo undrafted rookie. All goalies taken in the first round between 2020 and 2022 are struggling (Filion, Hagen and D’Aigle).

Yes ... which explains why teams are so reluctant to use first round picks on goalies ... they seem to be much more difficult to project than skaters.

I would never use a first round pick on a goalie...... as said they are much harder to project than forwards and/or D seem to be and many of the leagues better goalies wind up being guys drafted late in their draft year

Yes ... which explains why teams are so reluctant to use first round picks on goalies ... they seem to be much more difficult to project than skaters. [/quote] It's not even that they're more difficult to project than skaters - it's that only 1 goalie plays in a game. If you use say, the 4th overall pick on a Defenseman and he doesn't pan out the way you thought and ends up being the 4th or 5th best defenseman on your team, than... well you still have a decent roster player. If You pick a Forward and they're only the 6th best forward on your team, you still drafted a top 6 player. If you drafted a goalie, if they're not the best goalie on your team by 17, than the pick is a bust. If they're the 3rd best goalie in your system than they're not even on the team. There's a lot less risk with skaters because you can shelter them and let them make mistakes... Goalies, not so much.
