sure it is and my comments are about the sport itself that you and alex keep responding to it's a fundamentally flawed game that people enjoy i don't care if you like it.. i'm just trying to figure out why anyone would and go canada I'm actually a very casual/newish soccer fan. Found myself really enjoying the Canada qualifier games. I just find it bizarre to spend so much time commenting on something you don't care about. I should go onto the Islanders board and talk about how much I don't care about Jim Hulton, wouldn't be weird at all. i take a few seconds to comment.... i could probably comment 350 times while nobody scfores in whatever soccer game is going on now feel free to comment on the islanders board all you like go canada

At some point it becomes trolling and just meant to create a reaction vs provide a reasonable take. If non-Hab fans dove into the active Habs thread just to vent their displeasure with the team that would eventually just become pointless for the Habs fans to even discuss their team. So I guess I'm saying your initial take was reasonable and valid. The longer you keep coming here to repeat it....it does start to border on the question of "whats the point?"...far from trolling I agree...but why keep popping in to say the same as people do prove you wrong? Whether your take on soccer generally being low scoring or not is valid many have proven how the elite competition isn't always low scoring. While pointing out how hockey at an elite level could be viewed as a much more boring sport in comparison. At some point you do just have to let the fans have their discussion though.

Canada will be lucky to score 2 goals all tourney. Canada has never scored a goal in the history of the men's world cup. They've only ever qualified once and that was before my lifetime. Even scoring one goal would be a huge moment. You and Andrew can shit on soccer as much as you want but it's the most popular sport in the world. It brings people of all different cultures together. You guys keep bringing up the low scoring like it's the only thing that makes a sport exciting. In that case, wouldn't basketball be far better than any other sport? That's part of the excitement in soccer. It's so difficult to score that when you finally do score, the joy is incredible. You guys can stick with your whiteboy sport, watching Canada destroy Latvia and claim it's exciting because there was 8 goals. Let the rest of us enjoy this historical time.

i am legit interested in why so many people like the game suddenly tho.... i do get the whole Canada is finally in the big event thing and I will follow along and perhaps watch a bit to see if they actually do compete it won't change my views on the game itself tho...... Well if you must know why I’ve come to like soccer I can tell you. It all started in grade 12. I was looking for ways to minimize my in class time and my high school had just released a year long, 2 credit Soccer class. This was geared towards grade 11 students, but I managed to convince my school councilor to let me join the class. I was on the “soccer is boring” train back then but I’d rather be playing or learning about soccer than science. We’d have in class learning about the history and the tactical side of the game once or twice a week and the other 3 or 4 days were spent in the gym playing around either drills or scrimmages. I really didn’t fit into the class since I was a year older than everyone else and had by far the least amount of soccer experience. Even the 2 girls in the class were better than me. The teacher, Mr.B, he was so passionate about soccer that it was contagious. To him, I wasn’t a grade 12 kid looking for an easy credit. I was a guy who never played soccer, looking to learn a new sport. Since I didn’t have any friends in the class, most of my socializing was with him and I can’t say it enough how much his passion was contagious. So much so that after school sometimes I’d take a soccer ball and go practice in the baseball field next to my house. I put more time “studying” for my soccer class than all my other high school classes combined. All that to say that he showed me there’s more to soccer than just going end to end like you see in hockey. Soccer is the ultimate team game both on offense and defense. You move the ball in unison and defend in unison. A really good in sync defensive line can force offsides which is an art in itself as crazy as it sounds. Mr.B passed away many years ago now but if his impact on me has not. Go Canada

Champions League games would come on right around 3:30pm for a perfect after school distraction. I think a lot of things like this going to services like DAZN hurts the growth as its harder to find some of the games. You basically have to already be a fan to know where to find the games which isn't great if you're not brought up in it by family.

First 15 Mins of this one has been very entertaining. That penalty goal would have been huge.

First 15 Mins of this one has been very entertaining. That penalty goal would have been huge. We can compete with the best. So far an excellent first half for Canada. Should've been a second penalty too on Belgium late. We're not out of place though, and that's definitely huge going forward.

serious question
why do players not kick for the top corners on those penalties?
the goalie is always diving one side or the other..... the net is huge... why not kick high?
go canada

It's easier to go higher on a hockey penalty shot because you can get in as close as you want to, where in soccer you have to take it from that dot so you need precision, accuracy and power. A tough trio to really control with perfection.

What a game, no shame in a close, hard fought 1-0 loss to the internationally ranked 2nd place team. Croatia and Morocco look very beatable for Canada.

Helluva Try . We can play with the other teams . Helped that Croatia and Cameroon tied . It really showed we can compete with anyone. Definitely can't wait for the next game. If they put that effort or better in they could be getting their first ever World Cup win.

That sucked but it is exciting to see them play with Belgium and offers some hope with the next two games.
