Brutal outcome. Well never make our way up the standings if we can't at least hang on and get 1 point from these bigger teams.
Sherbrooke and Quebec coming up, hard to expect much in the next couple games as well

0 for 5 on the Powerplay which at one point had a 5 on 3 for a minute and forty-five seconds and also gave up a shorthanded goal on another powerplay.

Chances are any high draft picks we have now have are going to be spent on more players. It's time for this team and organization to start working towards contending and building a winning mindset going forward.

Correct it's about culture and creating an identity with some feeling of success which will go much farther in building a team than wallow in defeat every night will.

That was the first game I've seen in person since September. I would have been super happy with 5-4 if you offered it before the game, but I actually felt pretty frustrated leaving.
I feel for Lavoie, his turnover on the winner was a bad one. I get you wanna play brave hockey and I'm all for it, but in that situation you just focus on getting a point and clear the zone. It's not the first time I've seen him give up a goal trying to skate the puck through the middle of his own zone. I like that that doesn't deter him, but you gotta pick your spots.
The speed at which we moved the puck on the powerplay was brutal. It gave the Moose a chance to jump lanes and get in position to block shots. Contrast that to their powerplay, where our PK was basically pinned below the hashmarks.
Why on earth did we not pull the goalie? We had 30 seconds of puck possession in their zone with 1:30 left and Satny didn't move. I can't understand that one.
We are dangerous on the rush, and will steal some wins this year through counter-attacking hockey. Did a decent job of plugging up the middle of the ice, and the Moose had trouble breaking that down. Satny kept us in it for a while in the 2nd. I would have liked to see the Eagles be a little more aggressive on the forecheck at times, but being conservative is probably what kept that close so I don't mind.
It was a good hockey game. We've put up two good showings against the Moose since Xmas. Excited to see where we stand against the rest of the division.

Unfortunately we can't help that we're building to win with players who have yet to show that high end we will need from them in 14 months or so to go on a deep playoff run. We need the Lavoie's to take the next step. And the Squires' to raise their game. But also the Biggar's to quickly gel with the group and provide part of that impact we paid for.

It's not unrealistic for the Eagles to climb as high as 12th or 13th in the overall standings. Tho it's definitely unrealistic to expect they climb high enough to not have to face one of Quebec, Halifax, Sherbrooke, Gatineau, Victo or Rouyn.
There is something to be said for getting players into meaningful games for their development tho, and the standings can definitely be a motivating factor going forward, plus playoff games.

They didn't get worse at the deadline, and Bathurst, Saint John, Charlottetown & Baie-Comeau all did. They're only 3 points behind 6th. Given their schedule it's not impossible that they get 6th in the conference and play a Rimouski or a Moncton in the first round with the 1 vs 8 format. I'm assuming it's the same playoff format this year?

So no suspension for the hit. L'heureaux gets an extra game for his antics in the intermission.
