He's kinda become a bit of a throwback to old time hockey this year...... regularly dishing out huge open ice hits that many people seem to take issue with. Last night he absolutely throttled both Dillon Dube and Nazem Kadri with what I think were perfectly executed body checks and was forced to fight for both of them
What say you guys?

I hate that guys have to fight after a legal hit, it's ridiculous. If a guy sticks out a knee and it's a dirty hit, sure, but not shoulder to chest.

If you hit a top player you're still going to have to defend yourself. Clean or not. I also don't view an explosive hit where the D has so much momentum that he leaves his feet as this textbook clean hit that should be celebrated. No issues with someone coming in to protect one of their teams top players. If Trouba wants to be the Scott Stevens of the current day NHL he can handle the inevitable fights that will come that. Especially going after players like Kadri. And we talk like these guys have instant reply to go through frame-by-frame to decide whether someone is hit cleanly or not. That was violent enough that you better be willing to defend yourself after doing it. You have to 100% expect Calgary to defend their guy after that. "clean" or not its an attempt to injure the guy simply because of the force of the hit. If you play that way you'll have to deal with the way the sport polices things like that.

Great hit...answered the bell and tuned up Dube. Fun player to watch.

I have no idea why hitting a guy in the head OR with your elbow is illegal, but hitting in the shoulder and throwing out your elbow to extend through the players head is legal. That being said, his hits weren't even close to being as bad as the Blais blindside in the same game. Also, "being forced to fight" is stupid in this case where he dropped the gloves first both times and the other player got the extra penalty both times.

My point was not to debate weather that particular hit was legal or not but to say it's dumb that guys have to fight after good, legal hits.

As an Islanders fan, I automatically hate everything Rangers related, but even I didn't think there was anything wrong with either Trouba hit... or the Blais hit.
Although my favorite hit of the year was Romanov on Wood.

Totally clean hit.
Every opponent needs to know when he's on the ice.

Trouba’s always laid big hits, it just seems like he’s really taken the “mantle” of leagues big hitter this year because there’s so few big open ice hits anymore. For me, they’re clean hits and answered the bell. It’s just part of laying a big hit now I guess, you’re going to have to answer to someone most of the time if you want to play that game.

I had no problem with any of it.... it was a great game to watch a throwback to when hockey was fun lots of great plays but also big hits and some fisticuffs I like TRouba.... always have.... this year he has really become a bit more of a focal point tho because of his propensity to throw these hits that many players either don't, can't or won't anymore I also give Kadri respect for his reaction..... anyone who says either of those hits were illegal needs to reread the rule book and get their eyes tested
