The Only 2 Big Unknown's with this guy that I see is , he has / was never able to deliver a Playoff Spot for the Angels and this is his 2nd Tommy John Surgery .......not his first . Is there much of a precedence for coming back off a 2nd TJS ? Let's say he is "mostly" a DH only for the Next 10 years and he is a Hit and Miss SP . Does that justify a Half a Billion Investment ? Or will the Total Number drop down to reflect his Number of Starts ?

The spectacle you create in your own city combined with the added revenue from all the Japanese attention makes it worth it even if he isn't his normal MVP caliber. The investment is as much in your brand and taking your franchise to the next level revenue wise as it is trying to win. There's a unique opportunity to make a huge splash and easily see the downside still being a financial win over time.

Ohtani had Trout and basically nothing else. He put up ungodly numbers at both pitcher and hitter and it didn't matter because in baseball you need a strong bullpen, 3-4 good starters and offensive depth. Joining the Jays gives him a all of that. Ohtani is someone who thinks a lot about his legacy, I expect him to do everything in his power to eventually pitch again. There was an interesting article talking about how he likes playing in the Rogers centre because it reminded him of the stadium he played in Japan.

I don't want to believe it until I really see it announced. There's been so much on social media today. Dodgers Nation were saying he was signing with the Jays. Saw something from SI also saying that. Pictures of websites of private planes flying from California to Toronto. Lots of speculation. Someone posted that Kikuchi rented out a Sushi restaurant for tonight. Not sure how much of that is true. This is so huge.

If they give Ohtani a boatload, you have to think at least one of Guerrero and Bichette are gone, they will require 300+M investments each to sign in the next 16 months. That being said I would be shocked if Toronto signed him.

Multiple people reporting this is false. Seems like a bunch of people who know nothing so what’s actually going on is anybody’s guess.
