That part of playoffs where higher ranked teams sometimes lose early. But for the most part the top 10 to top 15 are intact. Windsor the highest seed eliminated at slot #16
The lowest ranked team still in play coming into Monday is Baie-Comeau at #38. Drummondville used their 4 wins over Victoriaville to climb almost into the top 30. The only top 30 ranked team that could be eliminated by a team ranked outside top 30 besides Victoriaville's loss to Drummondville is the potential of Moncton falling to the Drakkar. But it appears that most teams that have lost in the top 30 lost to other teams in that bracket.
Now some teams made it harder than they needed too but most of the top 10 won their series in sweeps - only Ottawa (5 games), North Bay (6 games) and Gatineau (5 games) stretched their series. And those 3 teams were playing opponents ranked lower than #42 entering round 1.
The case of Saskatoon going the limit with Regina is one where only 13 rungs separate the opponents. Saskatoon was not afforded an easy opponent. And they have had attendance in their series featuring Connor Bedard that make CHL owners envious. So why not play 4 home games?

I'll let you do the math on that one.

Is there a reason they couldn't put themselves in a position to have a stronger team? Did they really screw up drafting and developing? Its amazing to me that if you couldn't surround him with depth that you don't trade him for a haul.

I guess to answer the question what impact is Bedard making, what would Regina be like without him I guess turn it around ask what would a team like Moncton, Cape Breton or Saint John be like if they had him for the stretch drive? I am sure that it changes the whole complexion how a team would play and how in playoffs an opponent responds.

I am sure that it changes the whole complexion how a team would play and how in playoffs an opponent responds. They had 34 wins in 68 games. Even with Bedard's 143 points they only had 4 guys hit point per game. Their 6th leading scorer only had 27 points. They also look to have a good number of 19yr olds so its not like they're losing with kids. Definitely seems like a Bedard on a SJ or Charlottetown this past season. In the Q I think they'd have traded him or completely gutted any future to surround him with more talent.

Bedard has a no trade clause and didn't want to be traded. Nothing the Pats could do even if they wanted to.

Bedard has a no trade clause and didn't want to be traded. Nothing the Pats could do even if they wanted to. They could have got him some help ... even if they added some of the second tier veteran talent that is usually available at a lower price near the deadline. Without knowing what they may have on their roster - you can usually fill a euro spot, OA spots with decent players at a low cost ... plus you would think the lure of playing with Bedard could have helped them draw a quality FA or two. Edit: at quick glance, their euros seem decent, but their OAs would appear to be a very weak group, and their goalie would appear to be questionable ... not sure why they didn't at least throw a few draft picks at trying to solidify some obvious weak areas that can normally be addressed at reasonable cost.

I’m not sure that they really have the assets to do it though… they completely stripped the cupboards when they hosted the Memorial Cup and that’s why they got Bedard. They are still trying to build it back after they gutted it that season.
