Some interesting bits of information in the article below. The best news here is that our 2024 1st is still ours in exchange for the 16th overall pick. As of now i'd rather own my own pick next year. And that trade looks a bit better knowing it was a very late 1st this year. Really odd messaging otherwise. If you're serious about winning shouldn't shopping a #8 overall get you something? Don't get me wrong...i'm all for drafting and developing top 10 picks....but to basically say "nobody wants to deal" when you make more moves then anyone and are dangling assets in the media makes no sense to me. Is he overthinking it or overselling the lack of moves because he doesn't want his done deal to leak? Either way its odd to me. And the coaching stuff sounded more like "if Goyens is coming back i'll know ahead of the draft". People are in a rush but the NHL timetable doesn't care about the CHL calendar. And we all know this team won't pay 2 coaches so its forced to wait for Goyens to commit and has no leverage to force his hand. Its reputation is already bad enough in hockey circles.

By reading more it almost sounds as tho if couturier doesn’t like a goyens game plan going forward then more then likely goyens will be relieved of his duties I didn't take that from it at all. You spend an entire season with him but gave him another month to commit to your way or the highway? He'd have another coaching job tomorrow if he wanted one. I think its more about what other options he has.

Overall the Goyens situation is one of the strangest I have seen. Sly just can't come out and say, "he's our guy", which tells me he's not and they are trying to find a way to move on.
How does a GM go weeks without talking to his head coach, 20 mins at the QMJHL cup WTF? He should have spent hours with the staff that weekend and be in constant communication with the guy.
This is becoming a complete joke.

I agree 100 percent agree with Goyens situation , it’s looking more and more likely eagles will be looking for 4th head coach in less than 2 years in a few weeks or possibly even less after reading Couturier comments. Just can’t see see Goyens being back now .

Don't lose sight of the fact that Goyens lived with Courtourier during the Season ............so they could be "all talked out"...lol

Could someone copy and paste what was said about Goyens? Apparently not reading the cb post for a few years has made me reach the limit for reading article online somehow lol After the season, Couturier said he was able to meet with the team’s coaching staff including head coach Jon Goyens and assistant coaches Matt Anthony and Nick MacNeil. “We talked about a lot of things,” he said. “I was happy with how we went from 18th overall to 11th overall, but I was not satisfied. There was some stuff that we discussed that I think needs to change a little bit.” Since the meetings, Couturier said he saw Goyens for “about 20 minutes” at the QMJHL Cup in Boisbriand, Que., last month, but the two haven’t met since. A meeting will take place during draft week next month in Sherbrooke. “We will continue our discussion and what the game plan is for next year,” he said. “We have high expectations for next year and I need to know where Jon is with the game plan and everything and then we’ll see where we are.” Goyens was hired by the Eagles last July and guided the team to a 30-34-3-1 record and a seventh-place finish in the Eastern Conference – 11th overall in the 18-team league. – in his first season behind the bench. Goyens has one year left on his two-year contract with the team. Couturier confirmed both Anthony and MacNeil will be back for the 2023-24 season.

Damn, that's not what you want to hear.
Goyens seems like a smart young hockey mind, I wonder if he realized he wasn't going to get the support/resources necessary to win much of anything in CB

Does anyone know of a potential list of players that may be drafted in the import draft today? Its not that simple. You're talking every 17, 18 and 19yr old in Europe. Look at last weeks NHL draft picks and next years draft eligibles to narrow down who may look to come over. Cross off anyone already playing pro hockey. You're probably left with some Czech/Slovak/German/Swiss kids who may still have pro chances at home. To me need #1 is a goaltender but the team is quoted as wanting a forward so it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
