Now two weeks plus into the playoffs and these teams have yet to lose a game:
Seattle, Sherbrooke, Quebec & Kamloops. All have played 6 games - London lost its first game in its 7th game as the only series to play game 3 of round 2. So they should stay in this discussion until one of the other 4 wins a 7th straight.
What has changed in these rankings - At the top most noticeably is Winnipeg has fallen to #3. Winnipeg is in a very tough playoff battle with Moose Jaw (top 15 team).
Gatineau has moved up at the expense of inconsistent North Bay. Their 5-0 shutouts are producing the maximum bonus points for a home win. At that rate they will pass Ottawa even if they both advance. Data fade is still in effect so most of Gatineau's slow start to season is going to factor very little from here on.
No team lower than 13th ranked is leading their second round series. The lowest ranked team to be tied in their series after 2 games is Moncton (#22).
Saskatoon is the highest seed to be down 0-2 - losing 2 home games against Red Deer. What is more dubious about Saskatoon's playoff is they have lost the two opening games at home in back to back series. And will likely need 7 games again if they are to shake Red Deer.
ODDITY OF THE 2023 PLAYOFF SECOND ROUND
9 of the 12 remaining series are between division rivals...including all 4 OHL and all 4 QMJHL series. It just worked out that Halifax-Moncton, Quebec-Rimouski, Sherbrooke-Drummondville, Gatineau-Rouyn, Ottawa-Peterborough, North Bay-Barrie, London-Kitchener, Sarnia-Saginaw, and Winnipeg-Moose Jaw are also fighting to be the last team left from their division. Since the playoffs are by conference this was not planned. But is pretty cool. And in some of them it is a factor that makes the games very interesting.
