Of The Connor Bedard Sweepstakes ..............The Chicago Blackhawks .......speeds up that rebuild a little bit I would say . Not in the Cards for Anaheim to get a Generational Player ......they were Runner Up in the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes back in 2005 .

For anyone who believes in karma this definitely wasn't a night that provided any evidence it exists as the team with the racist logo who covered up a sexual assault earns the next generational talent.

The Habs should get a Real Good Player at the 5 Spot . One thing I know for sure is that Kevin Weekes will not be anywhere near the Draft Lottery Broadcast in the Future ..........letting the Viewers know that Columbus had the # 3 pick before Daly even said it and before they went to Commercial Break . No wonder Davidson and Kokkaleinen were so depressed .

they really should just put team logos on the bingo balls and show us them coming out..... would be far more transparent and cool then watching Bill Daly flip over cards
and yeah fuck the Hawks
but at least he's not gone to a market that is rarely seen on tv or on so late because of time zones

They really don't help themselves prevent the "rigged" conspiracies' the way they show it. Even the Q had some footage of the balls. I don't subscribe to the idea that its rigged, too much money on the line for those other teams, and based on how much the NHL is obsessed with growing the game to other markets wouldn't they just as much want a star like Bedard to go to a place like California or Ohio to put more eyes on those markets? You could make a conspiracy about it either way.
They do hire an outside firm whos entire job is to make sure that the process is fair, all teams are represented in the room. Do people really think teams like Columbus or Anaheim would just remain silent if they thought the lottery was rigged?
I assume the logic in how they show it is to build anticipation, because if you show the ball dropping you'd have to show pick number 1 first rather than build up to it. But flipping cards from 5 to 1 in complete silence isn't really that exciting either.

It's just the trendy thing to completely discount the security measures in place to guarantee proper standards or due process are followed. It's frustrating because the echo chamber effect means people just surround their own online presence with nothing but crap to question everything so people end up just believing nothing. To some degree you simply can't help these people or the fact they're going to think everything from the moon walk to an NHL lottery to who gets jobs at a local Wal Mart is some big conspiracy. I thought the best lottery they did was the McDavid one but last night was a dud from Weekes telling us Daly kept flipping cards in studio to the fact that essentially nobody outside those markets had any positive emotional attachment to Bedard going there. Once Montreal was guaranteed at 5...I personally didn't care where he went in terms of the American markets in the top 5. Anaheim and San Jose were who I wanted the least mostly due to time zones.

But flipping cards from 5 to 1 in complete silence isn't really that exciting either. Yup. No matter who won there'd become conspiracy theorists out there. Probably even a few of the same individuals would cry conspiracy no matter what the result. If a small hockey market wins, then that's just Bettmam trying make hockey more popular in that area. If a big market wins, it's just because Bettman wants him in a bigger market where he'll get more exposure. And yeah I'm sure every representative for all 32 teams are oblivious to the "fact" that it's rigged. It's only the online super sleuths, who are right less frequently than a broken clock, that were able to crack the code. The one I keep seeing this time is that they want Bedard in Chicago to replace Patrick Kane and that it must be rigged because it's too coincidental that he would land there as soon as Kane left. The mental gymnastics these people go through never ceases to amaze me. It is neither coincidence nor a conspiracy. The fact that Kane was traded and that the Blackhawks had decent enough odds to win the lottery are both related to the fact that the Blackhawks are in rebuild mode.

Yeah the fact they purposely paid for and happily played AHL level goaltending behind a team designed to tank and meet the cap floor had nothing to do with the team with the 3rd best odds winning a weighted lottery. It's amazing that people actually think so much in life is pre-determined. The way the NHL does it means the field has an over 80% chance of winning and the #1 team only has 3-4x the chances of the #9 team so there's a reason it always comes down to the last ball out of the machine.

I was thinking more recent ones but the Crosby lottery was a spectacle.

Little disappointed to see him go to Chicago after everything surrounding their team the past couple seasons. Maybe I feel they're a little undeserving. They also won 3 cups in the 2010's and are one of the biggest markets so seeing him on a team like Columbus would've been cool in hopes he can bring a team out of the basement and have a true star to build around.
It is a little bittersweet for Chicago fans though with Kane/Toews moving on and a new young star taking their place.
At least with him going to the West he will play Vancouver often enough that friends and family can see him, also him vs McDavid will be cool games to watch.
