I see you guys have 2 guys on loan how does that work? for example if the kid on loan from Chichoutimi cracks CB's roster does Chi get some sort of compensation?, good game by you guys tonight. Ya if either guy on loan cracks the roster their original team would get compensation which is usually just a later draft pick or two.

I think if I'm in Couterier's shoes right now I look at trying to move Shortall and maybe bring in an experienced 20 Fw to fill the gap left by Newcombe's extended absence.
In moving Shortall you're evening out your logjam on the back end for Waugh/Desjardins/Carboneau to all get minutes with the team along with using that OA spot to get an impact forward for this season without mortaging the future too much.

Read that Francis has just signed with the Summerside Caps. Ya I just seen the tweet now. good on the Capitals signing Francis but damn I wish those stupid eligibility rules for the NCAA were changed so guys like him could play in pre-season games without losing their eligibility.

After watching Waugh/Carbonneau last night vs a Major Midget Team from Halifax, I have a sense that we are going to have to be real patient with these guys for awhile. Add a 20 up front and what do you have? 2 unknowns in net and 3 17 year olds in your top 6 D, 4 in your top 7. There is no way Sly can sacrifice our D core in an attempt to put up more offense. These guys need time, maybe review it at X-mas, re-evaluate it then, but not now. I guess you could move your 20's at any time, let the offense run for a bit and see what you have 10-12 games in.

Just my opinion, but I think losing Shortall is hardly sacrificing our D core. Lavoie and Schmitt will be handling heavy minutes this season and pairing either of them with a younger, capable hand I don't think would sink the ship. Losing a top 6 forward like Newcombe to an already unspectacular forward group is more of a blow I think.

Where as McPhee and Begin are both on loan from other teams, is it likely that only one of them makes it because the Eagles have to give up compensation pick if they make the team? Do I have that right

Begin would have to be a top 6 MAYBE 9 forward for him to stick as a 19 year old - although losing Newcombe may help his chances. He isn’t a bad player and has played really well tonight ( I know it’s against 16-17 year olds) McPhee fits the age range cape is looking for and was a terrific player who has yet to find a home to provide a role for him
I do think cape has to go out and add a top 9 18-19 year old but they are tough to come by. It may take a shields/Fullerton/begin/stahom to fill that gap until Newcombe returns which I know that kid will do everything it takes to get back in the lineup

People saying the kid is too small for the Q playing with and against 16 and 17yr olds so he's preserving eligibility for a league of university aged players?
Sounds more like Jr A is the chance to be a big fish in a small pond to me. You also avoid being cut by leaving on your own.
This guy played Jr B last year. 2005 born. Its going to take an amazing Junior A season to get on the NCAA radar. Just seems far fetched to me.

Its going to take an amazing Junior A season to get on the NCAA radar. Just seems far fetched to me. He’s the type of guy that should keep it though. He’s small, he’s likely not making the Q, he’s already 18, why would you burn that eligibility by playing in an exhibition game? He probably doesn’t grow but we hear of guys that get a late growth spurt, maybe he’s one of them. He’s got 3 years for a lot of things to happen and for him to find a way to put himself onto the NCAA radar, I’d encourage most players in his position (even if it’s a long shot) not to burn your eligibility for a game or two in pre-season because you see lots of guys that could go play in the NCAA but they burn it because they wanted to chase a CHL dream. I think it’s probably more realistic that he (or his advisors) realize it’s probably not likely that a 2005 born player who played Jr. B last year is going to the Q and if he did, he probably ends up in Jr. A at some point anyways but maybe if things break his way, he’s got 3 seasons for an opportunity at the NCAA. I think it’s disingenuous to suggest the kid left because he wants to be the big fish in a small pond or that he was scared to be cut. That’s just a stupid take by you to even suggest that.
