According to Cam they had good discussions with him and his family. Followed him all year. Moose had him ranked 7th overall. Cam thought he was worth the risk.

I didn’t expect 3 picks would be Americans. I expected 1 or 2

Very boring…Good thing that we have a good team for next year….Rouyn, Drummond and Victo stole the show and i don’t think that we are ahead of them from the get go next year….from a future point of view, Chicoutimi, Moncton and a few others will be in good shape.

This was a quiet draft as expected.
The Killfoil pick could work out VERY well, if he reports it's a steal in the second round.
The rest of the picks are all futures, it would seem. I'll do some more research and post thoughts later.

How binding are these USHL tender agreements?
I know Dubuque surrendered a future 1st rd pick due to signing Kilfoil. So teams must take them seriously.

You don’t see a lot of guys signing tenders for their 16 year old season and getting out of them. Now… it’s not to say you can’t because it does happen on occasion but I’d be really surprised if Kilfoil is in a Moose jersey at 16.

Alec Nasreddine is an interesting choice as well. I thought I recognized the last name. Born in the US, but his Dad Alain is from Quebec and played in the Q. Alain had quite the career. Played a few games in the NHL. www.eliteprospects.com/player/745140/alec-nasreddineNasreddine's dad is also the assistant coach of the Stars. So that means now there are at least 1 more Moose fan in Dallas. I know of 3 (one being me) so far. Have actually seen someone sitting across the rink from me wearing a Moose jersey...which was kinda funny. I can't imagine Cam doesn't have some sort of commitment from Kilfoil's family. That 2nd rounder next year would be trade bait for improving the team. But you never know...we did have a commitment from Eichel one year and then the Q screwed it all up with it's backward rules that changed after the fact. Amico seems like a "let's gamble and see what happens when the kid is 18 or 19." He is on the US National Team next season so hoping it's like a Kane move, come to CHL to improve his draft slot.

The Kilfoil pick is one that seems like it played out exactly like I drew up. A Player Halifax has high on their list falls and they find a trade partner to jump up to pick ahead of some other team. SJ picked 33 and Kilfoil being basically a home town boy I wonder if Cam pulled the trigger think he won’t go past 33?
Kilfoil is signed with a USHL team so there seems to be red tape with the pick. I just don’t think Cam trades away a big asset like next year 2nd round pick if he doesn’t think he will be on the team. I personally think he’ll be here for training camp. If so I don’t see Cam letting him leave.
The pick that really intrigues me the most is the Nasredoine pick. With the lack of picks to take him as the teams 2nd pick makes me think they are very high on this kid. Now I really don’t know but something tells me he could have been there the next pick they had in the 4th round. Also reading Willy Pavlov’s article Cam does seem high on the kid but does seem to make it as another year of U18 would be good for the kid. Cam does say he’s will be good for a few years as a Moosehead. He’s one I want to watch and see how he does at training camp.
The 3rd pick Halifax made really seems like this drafts Martin and Fortaine type picks. A good player that maybe could make the team but will go back for a year of U18 as top pair guy. Then at 17 he makes the team no problem to become a roll player right away.
After that I feel like they just filled in holes. Someone said taking the amount of Americans they did surprised them. I can say I was surprised. With the lack of pick I kind of assumed they would take some flyers and hope they hit a lottery ticket or two with them. I think 2 of the 3 with their first 4 picks is a little surprising but like I said about Nasredine I think they’re high on him. The other 2 I think are lotto tickets and hope the hit.
Slight surprise but not surprised they didn’t look to add one player. I know they don’t have much of any assets but it seemed people were willing to trade. I just hope some ground work was made this weekend when it comes to that.

I suspect he had a deal with SJ in place well before hand, since he was at the draft so there probably wasn’t much of a worry that another team would jump up and get him.

This was well known before the draft, he voluntarily enter the Q draft even though he isn’t part of the Q’s territory. No different than the Sims kids being drafted in the O.

I doubt that’s the case just given the fact that Dumais would be pretty unlikely to make the Blue Jackets out of camp. Probably getting a full assessment based on guys they think can contribute next year after the import draft and can guide their decisions on Biasca and Moravec due to their euro and overage slots

Agree with Cam spending that '24 2nd rd pick. Given how few picks they have overall, I was surprised he spent that much draft capital on an "NCAA" guy. Leads to believe he knows something. And he did day this draft was more about the future, paraphrasing. That tells me Kilfoil probably plays USHL next year and reports to Halifax in '24-'25. I personally would have liked to have seen that 2nd used to help the present, but in Cam we trust eh lol.

Watching Alec Nasredinne on you tube he reminds me of Cataford good size body that might be able to come in his first year and get some minutes on a 3rd or forth line . Good hands and skates well .

Is this a good sign? Mooseheads doubling down. Posting this about their 2nd round pick today on Twitter.
Interesting quote from Kilfoil's coach Kyle Quick.
"Quick describes Kilfoil as one of those players with that ‘it’ factor. He is a quiet leader who makes everyone around him better and certain aspects of his game are going to help facilitate his transition to Major Junior hockey."
I like that reference to "Major Junior hockey".
