- It went to BLB for Brayden Schmitt 2022-12-27 - Then BLB flipped it to CHI at the 2023 draft - Then CHI flipped it to VD with other picks for Mathys Fernandez - Then VD sent it to Rouyn for Emile Beaunoyer - Then Rouyn sent it to GAT for Sam Savoie
It's the Johnny Cash I've Been Everywhere pick.

I don't remember any talk about this last year, but would Alec Nasreddine have used this loophole to get into the QMJHL draft last year? Born in and grew up playing in New Jersey until 21-22 while his Dad was playing/coaching with the WBS Penguins and New Jersey Devils. Then in his 15 year old season, he played at ND in Saskatchewan while his Dad coached in Dallas, and is now playing for a team in Dallas. Neither NJ nor Texas are QMJHL states.

Because his dad played in the Q, Alec was eligible for the QMJHL Draft.

If one parent of a player was born in either Quebec or Atlantic Canada, the player is eligible to be picked in the Q Draft or signed by a team as a free agent.
Miles Muller’s mother is from Dalhousie, New Brunswick which is how he was picked by the Wildcats.
Julius Sumpf’s mother is from Montreal which allowed him to be signed as a free agent by Moncton.

Ritchie certainly deserves a ton of credit for finding some high quality players who perhaps other teams arent aware of like these 2 or just finding value in the late rounds. Lets hope Jack Hayne turns out to be another one of these finds. Now if only we could find a coach...

Watching the Halifax Macs vs Steele Subaru game and they confirmed Aiden O'Donnell is declaring for the OHL Draft. so that's what? 3 highly rated players in the top 10 for this year's draft that the Q is going to lose out on.

I'm not sure I even understand the reasoning of the rule. You get exceptional entry and additional choice because your dad played in a different league many years ago. It sort of sounds like a "country club" or "fraternity" type admission..... which makes no sense at all. Sure it does. Hockey culture is toxic. Its never been more obvious then right now as we are still seeing toxic elements in 2024 that you'd think would be avoidable and yet here we are trying to justify that it makes sense that because somebody played in the OHL 20 years ago that their kid should also be able to even if they grew up and played all their minor hockey in a completely different region of the country. Fraternity is the great way to put it because thats what it is. The top guys get protection from the same penalties as the rest because they're perceived as the ones who will reach the highest mountains professionally. People need to stop wondering how this toxicity manages to stick around from era to era as things like this continue to happen for absolutely zero good reason. Part of it is former players now coaching and thinking stuff that happened 20-25 years ago should still be happening now.

I would like to state some facts on why top 10 overall picks are not wanting to play major junior
1- schooling for QMJHL players is god Awful. Especially for English schooling. It is barely monitored even some cases not at all. Self taught for the most part (including maritime teams).. I have to say except Halifax they are excellent with academics. The QMJHL preaches how good they do it’s an absolute smoke show 2- there is still separation between French and English in the league (some teams worse than others) . If you disagree that’s fine but your drinking the koolaid 3- If your pegged as an elite player to play in Major Junior and have schools calling ( ie) BU or BC having a chance to play with players like Huston, Celebrini, Perrault and Smith even Nadeau (Maine) your playing with the best it gives you an advantage over playing on a team like Quebec this year who is rebuilding. And if you look 20+ kids are signing AHL or NHL deals as free agents from NCAA, there has only been 1 from QMJHL Rolens from Bathurst
I think the QMJHL has to do a reset and figure out what they preach bs what they actually do.

It sure worked out well for a player like Jake Rozzi who has yet to play a game in the NCAA at 20 yo.

Missed your point? the average age for entering NCAA is over the age of 19. So lots of kids stand tall or fall off in BCHL or USHL .. very few kids go into NCAA at 18. Your sarcasm on a kid that is still on track to enter the NCAA at the right time has me confused.. Lack of knowledge hurts
