This is pretty much a slam dunk for me. There's an argument that he was only here for two years. But the impact he had on the organization in those two years was incredible. When you think of the Halifax Mooseheads the first player you think of is Nathan MacKinnon. For that reason alone this is incredibly well-deserved.

About damn time!!!
Bobby Smith owes Nathan Mackinnon for saving the franchise.
New ownership bringing about something that is years overdue.

In the time between the Marchand trade and the MacKinnon trade, this team was nothing. It lost almost 40% of its fan base. Even drafting Drouin wasn't a turning point as we had no idea he would even report. Marty Frk was a bright spot but in 2011 he was excruciatingly frustrating to watch. I don't know if the MacKinnon trade saved the franchise, but it was the biggest single turning point in this franchises 29 seasons. Maybe we should retire Erne's number as well.

Drouin won't be happy unless they retire his number as well.

People are arguing for the sake of arguing if they try questioning this one. The 2 years were because he was too damn good. Thats not a bad thing. He has the hardware and left a lasting impression. The perfect candidate for an honor like this. Give me the short term dominant player who leaves for the NHL over the 5 year consistent not but pro worthy guy any time. Yes, that is a shot at my own organization. James Sheppard's jersey should have hung in C200 before any of his teammates.

Nathan MacKinnon wasn’t drafted by the mooseheads, he was drafted by Baie Comeau As I said, Cam got both them in the same draft which is the impressive thing because he didn't have the first overall pick but still got the first overall picked player. Edit: there would be nothing special about having the first and second picks and picking MacKinnon and Drouin.

Edit: there would be nothing special about having the first and second picks and picking MacKinnon and Drouin. That August has to be the most amazing month that any GM has had. Cam Acquired the following: - Critchlow - Rd 1, 2012 - Rd 1, 2013 - Rd 1, 2014 - Nathan Mackinnon - Hardie - Mackenzie Weegar Cam Traded: - Rd 9, 2012 (Weegar Deal) - Carl Tremblay (Hardie Deal) - RD_3,2012 BLB (Hardie Deal) - Erne - RD_5,2012 (Critchlow Deal) - RD_1,2012 (Nate Deal) - RD_1,2013 (Nate Deal) - RD_1,2013 Que (Nate Deal) - Carl Gélinas (Nate Deal) - Francis Turbide (Nate Deal) Those picks in the Erne deal made it so the Nate deal didn't empty the cupboard and almost turns out to be Nate for Erne. On top of that, selecting Lewiston's draft pick while everyone else went for players was smart. While Nate played a big part in turning the franchise around...that August in 2011 by Cam is what changed everything. Cam was able to be Cam for the most part, Bobby still got in the way (see Desnoyers) but it's been a good run in Halifax.

All I want to add is that the only thing that would make it better is if it was against Baie Comeau. Just give it that little troll job aspect to it.

The fact he screwed Patty Roy out of Erne and Roy had to send picks to get him was a beauty, at least that's how I remember it, without looking it up.

Can’t retire MacKinnon without Drouin.

Halifax only used one of the 1st picks of the Erne deal to get MacKinnon and used the other one on another trade later. The third 1st pick was sent back to Quebec who again traded it to Halifax for Gabriel Desjardins. Halifax used the extra first pick on Jack Eichel so it was lost in the cupboard. Erne was well worth the trade because him being stolen away pushed Roy who decided to go for Duclair just after despite having no deal with him. So for the price of two first picks we got Erne and Duclair at the end. Win-win
