The QMJHL will have a new trophy that will bear Patrick Roy's name. It will be awarded to the best goalie (like the Vezina for the NHL). They will still award the Jacques Plante trophy (best GAA).
They will hold a press conference to announce it before Quebec's game on Sunday.
The league will also have a new trophy for the top goal scorer. It will be announced later this year. I was thinking about Mike Bossy but the best NHL prospect award already bears his name. Maybe Mario Lemieux or Pat Lafontaine?

So an award for the best goalie named after a goalie who wasn't particularly good statistically in this league?

No goalies were good statistically back then - you can’t compare stats in that era to someone’s stats in todays games. By the same token, no one is scoring 200 points anymore - does that mean that no recent day forwards should ever get a trophy named after them because they weren’t statistically as good as forwards 40-50 years ago? Trophies, like jersey retirements, at this level are almost all based on how your pro career went.

It's easy to get carried away naming trophies after people.
Do we think there will not be more great players, coaches & tenured league brass in the future that they will also want to honour. Running out of things to name or awards to create.
The NHL is at that point now where they are still honoring some from so far back that I never saw them play. Vezina, Smythe, Selke, Campbell and so on. If they do this type of things maybe need rename some of the older named trophies to people your current fan base can relate to. Which is what QMJHL is sorta doing creating a trophy with Roy the storied coach, and pro champion goalie.
But pretty soon they will need start naming divisions, pucks, and penalty boxes after players and in the process it cheapens it all.
