There's a couple all-time records that could be in danger over the coming seasons -
Obviously, Jordan Dumais is challenging for all-time goals, assists and points, all currently held by Brandon Benedict.
If and when he's sent back, he's 16 goals back of the all-time goals record, and 9 assists back of that record. If you do the math on that, he's 25 points back of Brandon Benedict's record.
Mathis Rousseau is an interesting one too. He's quickly proven to be one of the best goaltenders in this franchises history, and if he plays out his career as a Moosehead, including a 20 year old season, he has a shot at a couple Zach Fucale records.
Fucale's 12 shutouts are the current franchise record. Rousseau has 6 to his name so far, this one could be realistic to catch.
The other record that is technically in reach, but unlikely is all-time wins.
Fucale had a staggering 126 wins in his 3 1/2 seasons in Halifax. Mathis Rousseau is currently at 58, 10 back of JS Giguere for 3rd, and 21 back of Alex Gravel for 2nd. He's a whopping 68 wins, an entire season worth of games, back of Fucale tho.
The Mooseheads will rely heavily on Rooster between the pipes this year, and presumably next as well. That said, even with last years powerhouse team, Rousseau only collected 36 wins in 49 games. He'd need to do that this year and next in order to have a shot at #1.
It goes to show exactly how dominant Fucale was as a junior goaltender, and how good those teams he played on were.

Even if the Mooseheads don't bring a championship trophy out of this 2-3 year run, I think everyone should look back fondly at this timespan. The organization has done a great job at developing these players and put an amazing product on the ice for fans to enjoy every night. Last Christmas they brought in arguably the best goal scorer in the league and and the best faceoff/playmaker to play with their own star and made for lots of entertainment.
I think win or lose Mooseheads fans should be proud of the organization's commitment to giving Halifax a high end team, and a winning culture for years to come.

There have been a few changes that I'm really happy with -
1st, since 2020, the drafting has been better than it has been in at least a decade, and they're doing it without top picks.
Yes, it's easy to build a contender when you bottom out and end up with both the #1 and 2 picks in a strong draft. They did that twice.
But, the run they're on now isn't that. Every player single player on the team, aside from Jake Todd, are Moosehead draft picks.
MacKinnon and Cataford are the highest picked players on the team at #5 and #6 overall respectively.
Phillips was picked 7th in 2022
Vidicek 14th in 2020 Dumais 18th in 2020
Crosby, 20th in 2021
6 first round picks is still quite a bit, but that's not an unusual number.
The real success comes from starting to hit on those late picks.
And not to call the shot too early - But Eddy Doyle and Alec Nasreddine should both play in this league, but yea, if you look at the draft the past 3 years, there's a very good ratio of hits to misses, and some of those misses were cashed out on early enough to return some value.
Yeah Furlong with 105 points is 45 back of Abeltshauser. Schultz with 71 has entered the top 25 list for D. Could be a matter of Furlong becoming the new leader but Schultz could pass him if he’s back and stays in Halifax as a 20. Meier and Carnegie are the last two on the top 25 list with 160 points, might see a D on that list by the time the current guys a done.
Cataford has 131 points so he’s not too far from the top 25 list and. 78 point season would put him in the top 10 all time for Moose scoring.
Vidicek is currently 18th and only 20 points from top 10 and a solid season will have him in the top 5 by the end.
The Benedict record has been around for 20 years and it’s a bit crazy to think if Vidicek were to return next year that we could have two guys pass Benedict and they would both be from the same draft.
Another interesting stat is 66 points for Dumais… 66 points is what he needs to enter the top 100 career point totals all time for the Q. Kind of cool considering nobody has cracked that list in about 15 years.

With Dumais officially back now, it's time to reheat this.
The Moose have 58 games remaining, and looking at the schedule he will likely miss 12 games over the holidays for the World Juniors.
Barring injury, he should comfortably surpass Benedict's all time franchise records. The top 100 career Q point total is less certain but still likely. Keep in mind his rookie season in the Q was a shortened one too!
If we are able to win the Presidents Cup this year and/or he is able to carve himself out a solid NHL career, surely his #11 will get raised to the rafters at the Metro Centre, no? I wouldn't be handing out his jersey number to anyone else in the short term, anyways.

Going into the weekend, Dumais is 5 points away from the record.
For my sake, I hope he puts up 2 or 3 points in Saint John Friday night... no need to have a monster game on the road haha. Will be special if he can get #303 and #304 in front of our fans.

I wonder if the team sits him if he get 4 points and they are winning big? For example let’s say it 6-2 moose only going into the 3rd. Do we think management would make the call he doesn’t leave the bench unless the get with in 1 or something like that. I think if Bobby was still around he would.
Looking at QMJHL (lifetime) career points, Dumais is 41 points away cracking the TOP 100. No player has broken the top 100 in the last 15 years. Depending how many games he misses the rest of the season, he's got a chance to finish in the Top 70 or even top 60! Now that is impressive.

Way To Early Post so if you’re soft don’t read.
With Markus Vidicek here this season and probably as a 20 next season there’s definitely a chance he can overtake Brandon Benedict’s 303 points as well, Vidicek notched his 200th career point last weekend with 47 games to go. 100 points in 115 games is doable!
He definitely won’t overtake Dumais as he’s already crushed Benedict’s record with the 47 games to go. And if he stays on pace Dumais will obliterate the record by an extra 100 or more which would be ridiculous.
Then you have Cataford at 152 right now could potentially have a
1: Jordan Dumais 2: Markus Vidicek 3: Mathieu Cataford 4: Brandon Benedict 5: Maxime Fortier
It’s just crazy how much the sport and teams evolved over the last 5 years, lots of goal production again. BO Groulx had 207pts in 221 games as a Moose. And Vidicek is going to pass him with 204pts in 196. It’s worth noting that the Q Goalie Production is on a slow decline too. At least this season, not many prospects to name. I can think of Antoine Keller for Bathurst. I’m probably missing a big one.

I don't know Moosehead's historical goalie stats, but Mathis Rousseau has to be having, and is on track to have, one of the best seasons ever.
I expected him to be good this season, but not THIS good. 1.79 GAA, .941 save %, first in wins, tied for first on shutouts. Those are gaudy numbers.
Worth noting that Mathis Rousseau is 1 win away from tying Jean-Sebastian Giguere in wins as a Moosehead at 68 which would be third all time. The only goaltenders with more are Alexis Gravel at 89 which is definitely passable but Zachary Fucale has 126 wins as a Moose.
Rousseau is also 1 shutout away from tying Jeremy Duchesne for 2nd all time shutouts at 8. Fucale with 12.
Rousseau currently has the best GAA and save percentage in Mooseheads franchise history just barely holding onto it though with Fucale right there.
Other than that Rousseau is third all time in points with 1 Goal and 6 Assists.
Mathis Rousseau will go down as the best or 2nd best goaltender in Mooseheads history, without even playing a 16 year old season. I will say the best if we get back to back Gilles-Courteau Trophy Finalists or better and nets Team Canada at the World Juniors, which is totally possible with the recent resume of goalies like Thomas Milic, Devon Levi, Joel Hofer, etc!
Keep it up Rooster!

How about a post-trade deadline franchise records check in?
Jordan Dumais passed the all-time points and assists of course, plus tied 1st in all-time goals.
Rousseau has tied Jeremy Duchesne 2nd all-time in shutouts with 8. Also passed Giguere for 3rd in franchise wins with 70. To catch Fucale at 2nd, he needs 19 more wins. If the season ended today, he would set a new record for season GAA at 2.14, above Fucale's 2.26 in 13-14. His all-time GAA also would move to tie with Fucale in 2nd at 2.68.
After today's game, Furlong is tied for 5th all-time in points for defenseman with Andrew Bodnarchuk at 123 points. 27 back of Abeltshauser at 1st with 150. Not sure how likely it is he'll reach it this season, but I'd guess he passes at least 3rd with 130, not sure about 2nd- 143 points.
What else is there approaching notable milestones/records?
