Nice Win , I watched the 3rd period and the one thing that jumped out at me was just how small the crowd was . Nice way to start the Road Trip .

Couple interesing notes:
Biggars 3rd goal of the year surpasses his 2 Goals from last season in 60 less games.
Houde (1g, 2a tonight 9pts in 8GP this season) is making a strong case to be playing in the Q as a 20yo in the Q next season.
Begin scoreless tonight but went 9/12 in the faceoff circle, best percentage of the Eagles players tonight.

The biggest crowd the Eagles had so far this season was the home opener which they had 2651... Tonight in Gatineau they had 2574.....their 6th home game this season.

There was no way in hell that there were 2500 people there last night , much like when they announce 1860 a lot at our games and you know there are 1400 there tops .

Hard to tell from the camera angles on a webcast sometimes. You don't get a full picture for the entire rink. Especially a newer building that probably has people in boxes and sitting in seats outside the view of the webcast cameras.

So I decided to sleep on this before posting and I'm still not sure if I'm wording my thoughts correctly but while I'm happy to get the two points last night the fact it was a one goal nail biter against a team that many expect to finish in the lottery this year really annoys me as there should be no excuse for a game like that last night.
In my opinion there was a good portion of the game last night where the Eagles were out skated, out muscled or frankly just out played at times, had Gatineau been a more skilled team this year the Eagles possibly lose that game last night.
The biggest problem that in my opinion lead to the game being closer than it should of was that after the Eagles took the two goal lead they once again fell into their habit of letting up and for a team that's supposed to contend next season they haven't had many full 60 minute efforts so far this season (only eight games in I know) but I hope Louis fixes that habit sooner than later.
The only other thing I'd mention just incase anyone mentions it in a reply is the Eagles shouldn't have had bus legs since they've been in Gatineau since Tuesday.

We turned it on when we had to and got 4 points but these games shouldn't be as close as they are. This is where trading for Biggar's and Schmitt's and Roy's and other vets was supposed to give us a bit of an edge in terms of systems and comfort but there's still something missing. Now there have been some big positives. Ruccia has mostly been solid. Biggar has looked excellent. But the overall team game is definitely lacking a killer instinct that it should have against those younger inexperienced teams that it has yet to display.

sherwood1020, the Eagles ended up with 2 Power Play goals last night and did not give up a short handed goal either, which is a positive sign.
Hopefully, that improvement continues against Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or who both have much better penalty killing than Gatineau so far this season.

I definitely see your point here, I also kind of expected more of a whooping however there's a few other things to be considered. Gatineau, like the Eagles was also very well rested, and also coming off a big win over Baie-Comeau which I think will help their confidence. This is a still hungry team of pretty pissed off guys who have lost their best forward in Savoie long term and Luneau is still hanging around in the Ducks organization through no fault of the guys on the ice currently. They did everything they could last night to show they aren't an easy 2 points. On the Eagles side, I think it may be important to not blow every last ounce of energy on the first game of a 3-in-4 road swing when you have to play teams like Rouyn and Val-d'Or in a weekend crunch coming. Our healthy scratches tonight should be ready to draw in for these games to give some added legs. All in all, I personally am not going to get too fussy with the how and more focus on the how many as these points are incredibly important with us now tied with Moncton and only 2 points back of Halifax. Onwards and upwards.

All in all, I personally am not going to get too fussy with the how and more focus on the how many as these points are incredibly important with us now tied with Moncton and only 2 points back of Halifax. Onwards and upwards. Ultimately a win is a win and that is the end goal. But at some point you want to be blowing out the rebuilding teams if you want to contend. A lot of assets have been spent on 19 and 20yr olds on this team. So far their talent is carrying them and they're mostly playing up or down to the level of their opponents where you want to see more dictating of the play against those weaker teams. At this point you're right....no big deal. 2 points is a minor separation. But if those habits stick around after 15....25...40 games that inconsistency could be the difference between being in the upper tier of the league vs being in the middle. Big weekend ahead to really start answering some of those questions. Start playing more of a 60 minute game.
