More Jeckyl and Hyde from this team.
Coming out of the town hall I expected a great effort. 4-0 shutout vs Shawinigan. Finally rewarding the home fans a bit.
Then a trip to Halifax. They're starting to roll. We lost 4-0. But many comments about how hard the team worked. Rousseau 36 save shutout.
Into SJ. The type of team we should dominate. 6-1 win. Again though 1-1 going to the 3rd. 3rd straight game in SJ we let them stick around for a while before pulling away in the 3rd.
Then 3rd in 3 in Charlottetown. Another team we need to be beating. Big goal late to tie the game. Still lose 4-2. Thats a tough one.
So 4 games total. Some good. Some bad. But still a .500 split and questions around consistency.
Good to see Patterson get some production going.
All of our big minute D had at least 1 forgettable game of the 3 on the road. Its one thing for Biggar/Schmitt to have a rough game vs Halifax 5 on 5. Its another for Lavoie to have one vs Charlottetown. In order for us to win Lavoie needs to be an elite game changing minute eating defenceman and he's just not there yet at 17.
Milota has really settled in nicely. Look at his stats and he had 2 short 4 goal outings in his first 5 games. But now he's at 3.03 and .903 for stats and thats not bad at all considering those bad outings.

Lavoie is good but I'm not so sure he's ever going to be that dominant defenseman, I haven't personally seen it. I'm not seeing that x-factor, the game breaking ability, he's just steady basically.
Which is why I almost always advocate for taking the best forward available in the Q, rather than a defenseman.
Both our goalies have been doing more than enough for this team to be an upper echelon group if we had a league above average offense.
We're dead last in the league in goals per game, every other team down there is soundly below .500 other than Sherbrooke but they have 3 less games played than the Eagles.
My 2 cents, hopefully the forwards start gelling because I've beat this drum probably 10 times now, on the best of nights they look disjointed and unsure of where each other are at on the ice.

Sly immediately used the Dobson comparison and I cringed at it. Dobson at 17 was that elite RHD who could lead a team and change momentum all by himself. Lavoie could get there. But we decided after ~10 games at 16 that Lavoie could lead this year. Ultimately is was a poor comparison by a GM trying to replicate his Memorial Cup winning team which doesn't work player for player in a new town in a new rebuild.

Hoping the coaching staff starts coming to their senses and stops putting Aucoin in the press box, he seems to be involved in the scoring more often than not, however a team starved for offense would rather have him sit.
Fingers also crossed that Patterson has gotten the 500lb gorilla off of his back and keeps progressing now that he's hit the scoresheet in the past 2 games. If we get at least these 2 players actively involved with pucks going over the goal line then it's a win going forward.
Goaltending of late has been absolutely above average and definitely responsible for being an above .500 team, Milota is settling into a stellar 1B at 17 which is a great sign for the future.
