So for those who read it the trade period article the Eagles released a few days ago was a bit confusing in the way it was written Sly saying he didn't want to move guys like Ricard,Shields,Lavoie,Etc... but the next sentence saying he wouldn't be able to keep them together. This article in the CB Post from a few days ago I found was better written and I just wanted to pull a few paragraphs from it. First this - “Our goal will be to turn to our offence in any shape or form that we can,” said Couturier. “I think we need a guy who can quarterback the power play and I think that’s one thing we have to address.” Well rumours have 19yo Czech defenceman Tomas Cibulka headed here after the World Junior's so assuming the deal happens there's your Powerplay QB. Next about trading our prospects - Although Couturier wants to use the trade period to improve his team, he doesn’t want to touch the core of the club or its up-and-coming prospects like Luke Foley, Rory Pilling, Alexis Toussaint, Will Murphy and Logan Quinn. “I think we like our group this year, but we also like what’s coming as well out of that group for the next couple of years – we’re not going to go crazy,” said Couturier. And finally about the 2024 SJ 1st - “It will take a lot for me to trade that pick and I say a lot,” said Couturier. “Right now, it’s a lock that we’re not going to trade it, I don’t want to say 100 per cent because I like to leave my window open as far as anything great that could happen during the trade period.” These last two points I hope people hold Couturier to as he says they're not going to go crazy trading prospects and while not a 100% lock says it would take alot for him to trade SJ's 2024 1st, if he strays from these points he should be questioned heavily on it.

Got to think Desjardins is heading to Val-d'Or if Cibulka or Drapeau are headed here. I Think losing him (Desjardins) is a very shortsighted move and doesn't help our logjam of potential 20s for next season. As it sits right now we will be losing at least 1-2 players who we have heavy investments in plus adding to that will leave us with further gaps to fill in the cycle.
Current 19s
Ruccia (OA Candidate) Schmitt (OA Candidate) Newcombe (OA Candidate) Roy Houde (OA Candidate) Lavallee

Sly will be active for sure at the deadline. I can see him adding two quality players that are expected to return next season. i can see Arsenault from the Titans being brought in. I expect Sly to be in on Higgins but will lose the bid to rouyn. If sly can get his hands on higgins he would be a great replacement for Shortall who hasnt been good as a 20 at all. If Shortall goes that opens up a 20 spot i wouldnt say cape would be in on a superstar 20 but could get a really good bargain 20 for next to nothing that will be a much bigger improvement over Shortall.

If rumours ar true about Horth to Drum then I can see Eagles grabbing Drew Elliot on the cheap - definitely would be an upgrade over Shortall and adds a little grit and potential offense to a top 9 ?

I think Orr off of Bathurst would be a better choice skill wise for sure, however, he has been traded twice from contenders so maybe some personality problems. Hopefully those were figured out since being with the Titan. If Sly isn't a seller this year he has to buy correctly, Orr definitely puts them further ahead then Elliot.

Newcombe coming back is better then any trade, add in Patterson who is finding his stride and you are essentially adding 2 new impact players that can play in your top 6 without giving up anything. Sly may be changing his tune on what he needs and wants to spend to get a top 6 forward, the pricing is sooo high for guys like Henneberry, Horth, Orr.
Cibulka would be an unreal add in my opinion, locks down your 2 Euros for next season. The play of Milota likely has the Eagles thinking Ruccia is expendable and more importantly reduces the need to use an OA spot on a goalie.

Eagles Should look to still upgrade an OA a good run before they go all in should be on the eagles agenda for this year and i have no doubt Sly Makes moves. Hennebrry and higgins are both players he brought into the titans organization and i can see him trying to bring them to Cape. Orr wouldnt be as costly as you think

If Reynolds wants to be traded it would make sense for you guys he played on a line with Macdonald for two years and would only cost our 2024 pick lol

With the other deals made that pick has higher value to us than it does as a trade target in my opinion. Moving it should be extremely hard and only be done for a certain type of player. All the players we've added lack certain elements. Many have said things like "good but not great" when it comes to some of our acquisitions. That SJ 1st, if moved, has to get you that "wow, we have THAT guy..." deal. It's refreshing to read some common sense vs this "3 year plan, buy buy buy" stuff.

Hennebrry and higgins are both players he brought into the titans organization and i can see him trying to bring them to Cape. Orr wouldnt be as costly as you think Define "good run". Before 1 deal is made its 34 games in and we're in 9th overall out of 18 teams. Average. Middle of the pack. Conference wise we are in 6th. The top 2 (BC and Halifax) are going to be loaded after this trade period. Moncton and Rimouski are likely both adding as well with both also keeping an eye to next year. You can buy every single top asset on the trade market and you're still playing BC or Halifax in round 2 assuming you beat a Chicoutimi, Rimouski, SJ in round 1. Is that considered a "run" these days? If not, how are you getting a run out of an OA upgrade? Sometimes its like we forget half a season has been played and just buying players doesn't mean you're going to do much better or compete against the leagues best. As I see it if you do nothing you're in a 50/50 round 1 series and a huge underdog in round 2. If you buy a new overager and add other pieces you're in a 50/50 round 1 series and still a big underdog in round 2. Might as well just roll with a Shortall unless the upgrade you're getting comes super cheap.
