It started out with Burridge on the 4th Line then with the exception of The Newcombe , MacDonald and Houde Line .....everybody played with everybody . Robitaille was pissed after it was over ....saying too many guys Cheating the Game . He said Shortall was our Best Player tonight and I agree ........Calum Aucoin might have been the 2nd Best Player out there . Frustrating Loss at Home made driving home more miserable then the Road Conditions did .

That was a big loss. The early season issues meant we would almost have to win out vs teams below us to threaten Moncton. 8 point gap with 13 left seems like a tough obstacle.
So its left being a battle for home ice between 3 teams that stat wise look very similar and Chicoutimi has been red hot.
With that season ending road trip it could end up that we face Moncton in round 1 which I think is a better matchup for us than Rimouski. So there could be a silver lining to the losses.

He may be fooling some of you, but if anyone thinks the Eagles are a better team with Shortall up front rather than on D, you are drinking the Kool-Aid. I can only imagine the credibility being built with the forwards who will be counted on next season. The stability lost on the backend far outweighs anything being accomplished upfront. Down 2-0 to the Isles in game 55 of the regular season should not create complete panic for a coaching staff, but it did and that is the most concerning part of last night's loss. Where is the trust, the structure the poise?

I never talked to one person there last night that had an issue with Burridge being dropped to the 4th Line , not good when your nickname is Floater . They could all learn by watching Shortall's effort out there last night. You talk as they should get a Pass for their Performance .

This has nothing to do with effort and it's not about Burbidge, it's about what's best for the hockey team. The Burbidge situation should have been addressed 3 months ago. I am not questioning Shortall's effort, he plays the same way on D, where he brings the most value to the roster. I have been saying it all year, he is the backbone of our D core.
Burbidge's ice time should not be replaced by a D-Man. You have a 20-year-old who you are telling every night that there are 6 better options on D and a forward group that you are not as good as a stay-at-home shutdown D, terrible messaging all around.
I just think it's pure silliness that has deeper consequences for the overall group both this year and next.

If the plan was to ever use a 20yr old up front...well, Horth should have been scoring 2 for us last night while Shortall was the hardest working Islander. A result like last nights shouldn't happen for a team that has so much tied up in veteran players who are expected to bring an impact every night.

Tough sledding right now picking up only 1 point in our last 3 (winnable) games. If we don't turn it around this weekend we can officially put hopes of Home Ice in the playoffs to bed. 3 point game between Rimouski/Chicoutimi was just a cherry on top of our dire situation.
It's disappointing and sad, seeing this pre-christmas scenario playing out all over again, seemed like we really turned that corner in January and headed for a great second half.
