This season has been extremely weird in terms of a go-for-it season. This team will probably end up with one of the lowest win totals from any Moose team in a go-for-it year. There is a lot about this team to be critical about. I wanted to take some time to give a shout out to two individuals on the Mooseheads who among the discussions this season don't get enough credit for what they've done for this team:
Mathis Rousseau and Brady Schultz.
It's not like Rousseau is under the radar, but we've gone through many go-for-it seasons where Halifax's goaltending is "just there", and not a strength. 2008 was just a disaster, Fucale and Gravel had their flashes but were not consistent. Rousseau has been Rousseau the entire season. I can't remember when a Mooseheads goalie has been near the top of the league in save %, let alone at the top. Rousseau in my opinion is this teams' MVP with Dumais missing half the season. If Rousseau wasn't here I don't know where this team would be.
Brady Schultz has turned into a heck of a defenseman. His defense has greatly improved and he works hard every single shift. He has gotten far more confident skating with the puck, and his passing/vision is severely underrated. He throws a ton of hits for a smaller player. In my mind he's one of the funner players to watch on the team. If I collected jerseys, I'd have a replica Schultz jersey.
There's going to be some stress over the next few weeks. I thought I'd point out two players that have made it easy to be entertained at the rink.

I know next year is going to be a big selloff to start the rebuild, but I hope Schultz is the one who sticks around and captains the team. One of my favourite Mooseheads in recent memory and an absolute steal of a 14th round pick.
I'm holding out hope that he gets a shot at pro hockey after his overage season. An ELC might be a bit of a stretch, but I could see him starting out with an ECHL/AHL contract.

Schultz reminds me of Mackenzie Weegar-lite at this point. Really good offensive instinct and ability, good skater and will play physical. I meant to post something about him weeks ago lol. A real standout player this year.

Agree on Shultz, he’s had some very dominant shifts.
I just want to say, I agree on the inconsistency of this years team, but, I know for me, the biggest difference is Josh Lawrence and Alex Doucet type guys weren't available this year like last year, those two guys were so dominate, they created scoring chances short handed, Lawrence won every faceoff, they were a pleasure too watch last year, if they hadn’t of been available last year, they wouldn’t of had this 2 year window in my opinion, and that’s on the GM to be that aware and knowing he could get them. This year just wasn’t the same pool of players to pick from, and thought Cam did okay to get what he got, without any silly costs. (Henneberry ex.) There will recoup a lot of draft picks next year due to their shrewd drafting in recent years.
This years team is hard to watch at times, but once Dumais comes back, if they win first round, Rousseau and Dumais on the power play alone could win a series on their own. We will see how it plays out, but nonetheless, it’s been good management in my opinion.

A real standout player this year. 100% agree with this comparison. His size might hold him back but if you look at this situation it is a great store for US players that are a little undersized to come to the QMJHL and develop. Lets hope it has a happy ending for him.
