I wonder if St.Johns ends up with another QMJHL team at some point, the ECHL/AHL thing seems to have run it's course.

I wonder if St.Johns ends up with another QMJHL team at some point, the ECHL/AHL thing seems to have run it's course. I think they end up with nothing. They just love their pro hockey. And for some reason refuse to move off the idea that the Q is a bunch of high school kids. Add in the logistics and the cost of doing business and its hard to see how the Q can survive there. They would need a perfect storm of a deep pocketed owner looking to do it right, a building lease that is sustainable, a travel situation that everyone can agree on, and fans willing to buy in and let go of their vision of themselves as some major league sports town that happens to be geographically challenged.

Really bad situation for those in Newfoundland. It was the TR situation with them not paying their bills on time that actually cause this from what I understand. Yet in the end they actually keep their team and its the Growlers that are folded. This would be like the Quebec Remparts not paying their bills so the Armada fold and someone else buys the Remparts. Just shady business all around.

It starts with a deep pocketed owner, the Fog Devils didn't stay long enough to get a foot hold on the region. One of two things happens IMO, either a deep pocketed guy brings back ECHL in the next 2 years or the Q is eventually back, might take 3-4 years but somebody higher than local senior hockey will end up there.

Just shady business all around. Kind of crazy if this is true ... which is kind of what I have been able to put together from what I have read too. Obviously lots of details missing - with a common owner (how did that happen, anyways?), money from one may have been paying bills for the other based on who they wanted (or needed) to pay first.

I went to a pair of Growlers games last season and enjoyed them. But the biggest issue for me was the lack of variety in the schedule. To save on travel costs, teams show up, play three gams in a row (I think typically 3 games in 4 days), then leave. I get the necessity for the teams to save money, but it certainly isn't overly exciting for fans.

Couldn't The Leafs have Cut a Cheque to get them through to the end of the Season ?

Couldn't The Leafs have Cut a Cheque to get them through to the end of the Season ? Yeah you would think so there has to be more to it that made that complicated due to the financial issues of the past owner because you know the Leafs have the money to keep that running for a few more weeks.

The little I know about bankruptcy is that the creditors would be ranked … so if someone like the Leafs wanted to step in and cover the bills for the rest of the season, they couldn’t necessarily do that without paying the secured creditors first.

As much as I loved the Foggies....I just cannot see a QMJHL team landing there.
