Based on this ranking of NA skaters, once you add the Europeans, it would appear that there is a good chance no one from the Q goes in the first round this year ... wonder when the last time that happened was?

Poirier ranked end of 3rd round, could arguably fall to like the 5th or so, not sure when the last time a 50 goal scorer went that late lol.

Answered my own question - not since the NHL draft started in 1970 has the Q gone two years in a row without a first round pick. Six times in the last 54 years the Q did not have a first round pick (1970-1989-1992-2000-2018-2023).

He's ranked 82nn in NA skaters, that puts him late round 4, early round 5. ~start rant~ NHL CSR is so a$$ backwards with 4 lists. Every scouting service on the planet can combine them but not them...despite the fact that elite players play head to head every year at U17/U18/U20 events each year.

In terms of the QMJHL, the main issue draft wise is the Quebec minor hockey system is dysfunctional and broken and the regions all want to do things their way with no coordination. This is why Thibeault stepped down.
The Q is developing Euro and Maritime talent but the province with 9M in population is one of the worst in Canada(per capita) at developing players.

It tells a lot that the best player from Quebec in the NHL right now is Jonathan Marchessault, a 14th round pick at the QMJHL draft in his 2nd year of eligibility and undrafted in the NHL.

I’ve talked several scouts this past year, the consistency has been very impressive for a 17 yr old. The comments are much along the lines, he is a great junior player. Anyone that thinks he is an NHL level player clearly isn’t watching the NHL play offs. Nice to see his continued success.
