Well as the subject states.......
i'll start this of, but I fear no-one will know of them, but IMO the most underrated band that ever there was was:
XTC

Avenged Sevenfold used to be vastly under rated in my opinion. My favourite band.Their third album was amazing.(Waking the fallen) Unfortunately, the lead singer screwed up his vocal box and had to tone down the singing and they changed their style of music and now a lot of people like them. I like their third album (City of Evil) however their best album is the previous one(Waking the fallen) They have a new album coming out October 30th, can't wait!

I'd have to say Brand New IMO. Their old stuff I'm not to sure on their new CD. I'd like to say Taking Back Sunday while IMO They are better then Brand New but they are probably less under rated then them as well.

Hanson.... the keyboard work was second to none. ;D mmmm bop Amost forgot the hypnotic, melodical lyrics...again, second to none... well, maybe second to that new Will.i.am song "I got it from my momma, I got it from my momma, I got it from my momma"

LIVE. They came to Halifax and only half-filled the Metro center. They are IMO the best band there is, but aren't know a whole lot in this area.

British band James.
Depending on the song, they have a U2 / Saga / Asia (two other very good and underrated bands) sound and style. Quite interesting. The only time I heard them commercially in this neck of the woods is in the American Pie movies. Discovered them while in Britain.

Well as the subject states....... i'll start this of, but I fear no-one will know of them, but IMO the most underrated band that ever there was was: XTC If Andy Partridge didn't have extreme stage fright, and the band could have toured more (especially in N. America), I think people would have heard more about them. I don't know why Ra isn't huge right now...they're a very underrated band. I'll also throw Tesla in there--too many people simply thought they were a "hair band", and that label really didn't apply.

Did someone mention Ra? I trust you're talking about the US band known for "Do You Call My Name", "Rectifyer", "Fallen Angels", and a cover of The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic".
I consider myself fortunate to have their 4 CD's (One EP, From One, Duality & Raw). I can't wait for the band to release their new CD sometime soon.
As for Tesla, check out their covers CD "Real to Reel"...on the bonus disc there's a great cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" as well on the regular disc, an awesome cover of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You"
I'm going to list Dream Theater here simply because they've never been too much in the mainstream despite their awesome sound.
