Here's a bit of an update for all those planning on participating in the pool this year.
As I mentioned before, the response to the pool has been strong this year. However, I'd like some confirmation as to who is seriously interested. The only reason I bring this up is because last year I had 24 people who wanted in... and only 17 participants (I had to field two teams). Of the seven who bailed, only one gave me any advanced notice. There's no way I can really stop it from happening.. hey, you don't show up online for the draft, you don't show. I'm SOL and have to keep goign (not like I'd lose any sleep over it. lol). One positive sign is that noone who bailed out last year has asked to join this year so that's a good sign.
Long story short, if any of those who have asked to take part truly feel like they either don't have enough interest or time to do it (btw, outside of draft night, it's really not time consuming... following this pool is literally as easy as checking the board itself), let me know in some way shape or form. I'm not trying to drive people away, but I also don't want any bailers if I can help it. It really makes this hard to work around and makes the pool as a whole less competitive.
Now that that's out of the way... I have received a PM showing interest from the following people:

That makes 33... also, thanks to the 11 returnees who have come back for another year thusfar.
For those who have not signed up yet but are considering it, I'm setting the signup dealine at AUGUST 31ST AT 9PM ATLANTIC TIME! I figure by then, anyone who seriously wants to join should have enough opportunity to do so.
By the looks of things, this will once again be a two division pool. The two divisions are merely to break up the number of teams in one division. With the roster format I use, it would be VERY hard to have, say, more than 15 teams in any one division. The two divisions will be totally separate. That is, they both draft from the entire Q talent pool available and their stats are calculated seperately. The two divisions are completely seperate entities.
Speaking of drafting... this means we will most likely be holdign two drafts again. For those who are first-timers, I can guarantee you one thing: if you want to be at the draft live, clear your schedule for whatever evening that may be. Depending on the number of teams and how fast everyone else in your pool drafts, the draft could take upwards of 3 hours. Last year, one side took about 3 1/2 hours if I recall... the other (which had two less teams and significantly less chit-chat while the draft was taking place) was over in about two hours.
Looking at the calender right now, I'm looking at Monday Sept.10 and Wednesday, Sept.12 as the prospective draft dates. Planty of time to get ready for everyone and as close to the start of the actual season as you can pretty much get.
If you aren't able to be there for your respective draft day, I'll gladly accept a draft list. If you're doing up a draft list, I'd recommend about 150 names... and since the draft will be done regardless of position (i.e. we won't be drafting forwards, then defense, than goalies) DO NOT ARRANGE YOUR PICKS BY POSITION!!!!! You should make your draft list from most desireable to least desirable player, regardless of position. When I post the scoring format (which will change at least a bit from last year... more on that later) you'll probably get a better idea of where you want to insert certain players on your draft list. Draft lists can be emailed to me at will17@nb.sympatico.ca. If you are emailing me, please put Draft List or Q Pool or something along those lines in your subject title, so I know what it is and don't accidentally delete it. Also, put your board nickname in there somewhere so I know who is who.
I've been trying to think of the easiest way to conduct the draft (or, most likely, drafts). Last year we had two divisions and therefore two seperate drafts. Bruce Wayne put up a java based chat on the Pool board and opened it before the first draft. Long story short - it was a disaster. We ended up conducting the draft on MSN since basically everyone had at least one person on their list (except poor Lou who had to download MSN first. lol) The second night the chat worked relatively fine.
Though the chat worked the first night, I'm not chancing having it work against me again. That being said, I'm open to suggestions. We could hold the draft on MSN since I'm sure most people have it at their disposal... but if anyone has any other suggestions, let's hear them. I'm open to any and all suggestions you may have.
I'm out for now... but by the end of the weekend, I hope to have a post outlining any revised scoring and rule changes (nothign major, I promise)... and I'll be opening up the floor to all prospective participants who may want to voice suggestions on making this pool better.
As always, feel free to PM me or reply on this board if you have any questions.
Cheers,
