Just commenting on the previous post....he is not 18. Perhaps, to satisfy you, I should have said that he was 17.9. I don't know about you, but when I tell people my age, I tell them I am 37, not 37.89315068 or 38. And while we all do that ... it is incorrect. In fact ... since Nov. 13, 2007 Famin has been in his 18th year of existence. I do not disagree with any of that. Although Famin is in his 18th year of existence, he is still, legally, 17, and the statement that I commented on stated that he is 18, which is untrue. 18th year of existence...yes; 18 years old....no. Anywho....moving on...all that we can hope for for this season is that Voynov does report to Moncton at some point. Personally, I think it is as likely to happen as Brad Marchand being sent back to junior and us getting Val Dor's first round pick next year.

If you listen to Manchester Monarchs head coach Mark Morris, it appears unlikely that Vyacheslav Voinov will be joining the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The 18-year-old Russian defenceman will be in Manchester's lineup when it opens the American Hockey League regular season tonight on the road against the Portland Pirates. The Los Angeles Kings claimed him in the second round of the 2008 National Hockey League draft and have the option of assigning him to the AHL or QMJHL to continue his development.
"That's a decision that will be made by the L.A. Kings,'' said Morris. "It's a decision that's out of my hands, but he's certainly capable of playing in the AHL. I think that as he acclimates to the language barrier he will continue to get better and better.
"He's here for now and I haven't heard there are any plans for him to go anywhere. He's not intimidated by the physicality or the intensity of the game at the AHL level. Right now, as I see it, he can fit in just as easily as anybody on our defence corps. He looks comfortable. He's proven in the exhibition games that he's as strong and as skilled as any other defenceman here.''
It could be a couple more weeks before Los Angeles makes a final decision on whether to keep Voinov, six foot and 190 pounds, in the AHL or QMJHL. Moncton selected him fifth overall in the 2008 Canadian Hockey League import draft.
Voinov played against men the past two seasons in the Russian Elite League. He suited up in the World Junior Hockey Championship the past two years and he helped his country win the silver medal at the 2008 world under-18 championship, getting named to the tournament's all-star team in the process.
Manchester is carrying eight defencemen and the head coach expects Voinov will get regular ice time.
"He's a real strong skater,'' said Morris. "For someone that doesn't know much English, he's an intelligent guy who's picked things up in a hurry. He's really been a standout. For a young guy, he's as skilled as any defenceman we have here.
"He moves the puck smartly. He has a good shot from the point and he's an excellent passer. I think he's got an extremely bright future in the L.A. Kings organization. He's a solid kid physically and he sees the game pretty well.''
Manchester is even counting on Voinov for special teams duty.
"He's one of the key guys that I would look to put out there in power play and penalty killing situations just because of his skill level,'' said Morris. "I think there's certainly a huge upside for him and it's our job to nurture that so that he can be successful in the NHL some day.
"He probably has a lot of questions about how everything works (in North American hockey), but so far so good. He has a great attitude and he's figuring things out quickly.''

Yes it does seem unlikely he will be coming to Moncton. He's one of their "key" guys for special teams and he is getting regular ice time and not watching games from the wings. I don't think they expected him to make the adjustment this quickly. Seems that his only problem would be a language barrier.

isn't the #1 pick in CHL Import draft playing in AHL also, instead of playing in OHL..... Its hard to find a whole lot of info on the status of this year's imports. It just seems that only a few actually showed here in NA. By few I mean a small percentage, especially when compared to previous years.

1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points, +4 in 5 AHL games for the 18 year old. Flynn was on Around the Q tonight and commented on Voynov. Said he has been a big part of his club's success at the AHL level and has been chipping in on special teams, he doesn't expect to see him in Moncton this year. ** I know, you guys already knew this, and it's old NEWS.** Just thought I would share what I heard......please no hate mail .

For anybody that is wondering ... Voynov has played 8 games so far ... 2 away from one of those magic numbers that decides if they keep a Jr aged kid. stats.theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=2531Manchester plays tonight and Sunday to reach that 10 game level. Interesting to note that Manchester is last place in their division ... and perhaps they'll decide that he is better off in Jr instead of on a losing team in the AHL ... just hoping ...

It would be only logical for his development for him to be assigned to Moncton who has a very strong team (and might be a winner (cautiously optimistic)) than to Manchester who is last place in their division and not much hope of winning.

If he was getting 7th D man ice time I would agree but it seems like he is playing in all situations. Its not like he wasn't playing in a league with stronger men in Russia.

It would be only logical for his development for him to be assigned to Moncton who has a very strong team (and might be a winner (cautiously optimistic)) than to Manchester who is last place in their division and not much hope of winning. Here's an interview. www.russianprospects.com/public/article.php?article_id=599Labelled a couple of years back as one of the most talented defenders to come out of Russian hockey in the past several years, Vyacheslav Voinov (Los Angeles Kings) has been a regular as Russia’s higher Super League level for the pas two seasons. This summer after being drafted he made the unexpected switch to North America, joining the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate the Manchester Monarchs in New Hampshire. The young defenseman’s career has been full of surprises, since a big question mark on him before the draft has been whether he would be willing to cross over to North America and now he is, unexpectedly for a lot of fans, is playing in North America, and not in the juniors, but for AHL club. Such jump should not be a surprise though for those who have seen this young man skate against top adult players outside the NHL in Russia at just the age of 16. He is very talented and has a bright career ahead of him. Our correspondent caught up with Vyacheslav Voinov while he was getting acclimated to his new club in Manchester New Hampshire.
