I did not say we should dump MacAusland but, if a top notch player 18 OR YOUNGER, were available maybe you have to look at it, guys like Deschamps, Tessier, Sauve are only 1 year older and they could defintely add some scoring, otherwise no way do you trade MacAusland and certainly NOT for a 19 or 20 yr old.

The only thing about adding a 19 year old is, are Riopel Cameron Lessard Brannon coming back next year? I think the cheapest upgrade is getting a good but not great offensive d-man to play on the PP and take some of the pressure off Gormley(though he's played great lately). I was thinking Mallette for a 3rd rounder or something in that range...or Leahy plus a 4th, he seems to be a decent player and would add something to the trade. It would for sure have to be an upper echelon type of 19 year old who likely wont go pro. A kid like McNicholl or Pistilli... Guys like that carry a 25-50% chance of going pro at 20, look at Demers, Dubuc, Corsi.

The problem with trading for 18 year olds is the price is very very high. Quebec is a top contender so they would want like MacAusland Brown and a pick for Tessier, he is one of their best players. Same for Sauve in SJ.

Agree with you about the possible price for Tessier and Yann Sauve, but why would Quebec or St. John want to trade either of those players, especially when it is a go for it year for both franchises??

That's my point, they would need a huge return, basically an "offer they can't refuse". He's pretty much unavailable. The only 18 year olds available are guys like Doyle who have off ice issues or are not performing. You still pay a pretty good price and there is a risk. With guys like that you have to really do your homework so you don't end up with a cancer in your room.

I wonder what you'll have to give up to get Guillaume Goulet from Baie Comeau

Sorry, when I said Sauve, I meant Maxime Sauve. ok, then let's say a guy like Ben Duffy were offered for MacAusland, would you pull the trigger on that deal?

I don't think he would be offered straight up .... I highly doubt MacAusland gets traded, after the Cats went to all the stops to convince him to report here, I know certain promises were made and I would be surprised if some form of no-trade agreement wasn't one of them ... part of the price you pay if you are going to go after guys that aren't available to all teams is the loss of flexibility when it comes to trades, as you generally can't (or are reluctant, as it will hurt your chances of landing guys in the future) move them at will. In any event MacAusland seems to be on pace for about 50 points as a 17 year old, with minimal PP time - trading him now would not be a smart move, he is a realistic bet to put up 250-300 total points as an 18-19-20 year old.

As it was said on here many times, the way they are playing(if they keep playing anything close to that the next 2 months) it makes no sense to make major moves.

PEI would never offer Duffy for MacAusland. Duffy is a year younger and already showing he is significantly better than MacAusland. Nothing against MacAusland but Duffy is already showing signs of being a future star in this league kind of like Gormley.

A wildcast’s poster had posted on our website that your forward lines look something like this.
Lessard - Cameron - Eagles Brown - Sill - Brannon MacAusland - Bissonnette - Lahey Roski - Pettersson - Famin
First question I would have is why your Euro with 8 goals isn’t on the top two lines but separate from that. I think the upgrading on Lahey is the obvious move.
My first reaction would be to simply try and upgrade him with a Petite or another forward but there aren’t many potentially available 20 yr old forwards so the price might be a little high. Plus you are (surprisingly) one of the top teams offensively anyway.
So your best move would probably be to upgrade for a solid 20 yr old defensemen. Some of the higher profile guys like Paris or Lessard will cost too much. But there could be a few solid 20's like Gervais (maybe too high given how well he is playing), Legault (maybe still too high) Mallette, Rioux, Guay and a few others.
For PP help Legault or Mallette could be the best options. And some may jump on me but as an option B I also think Guay could be a solid low cost option because he won’t be coveted by a contending team and likely obtainable for something like a 2nd/3rd round pick which means you aren't sacrifcing too much of the future. He won’t QB a powerplay but he has decent skating and puck moving skill and his is pretty responsible defensively so he could really add solid depth as your 3rd/4th guy and relieve some pressure on the younger guys.
Then as a second move add a 19 yr old depth player like Laroche, Famulare, etc. Jodin might be enough to get a 6th/7th type 19 yr old forward like the above or you may need to package a younger depth player like Jodin with a draft pick depending on who you get.
Like SNB experienced last season Moncton likely shouldn’t make any big name additions because they will cost to much but the challenge will be trying to find the right minor tweak or two at a reasonable cost. And separate from winning a championship investing in a long playoff run could be a good investment to help further develop those young core players.
Anyway Just some “really” outside thoughts since I haven’t even seen the Wildcats play yet this season. Any comments?

I'm not sure Jodoin would fetch a forward that would crack our top 9. Then you're faced with one of our current young forwards losing ice time. By the time you make another deal to replace Jodoin, I'm not sure you accomplish anything other than making trades for the sake of making trades. Besides, Jodoin should blossom over the next two seasons, he is already playing like a veteran. Other than a move that upgrades from Lahey to a 20 yo d-man, like many here have suggested, I just can't see trades making any sense. We have enough forwards that you would really have to land an impact 30+ goal guy to make it worth doing....which is costly.
