Doesn't a team have 2 years to sign a player after he has been drafted? If the team drafting him doesn't sign him right away, he might have limited options, and the Q could be one of them. Not if he's drafted as a 20 YO, then they only have one year.

Just because you want that to happen doesn't mean it will. If by the end of the season he has proven that he is the best goaltender in the Q ... what would be the purpose of sending him back to the Q ... he is ready for the next challenge. The AHL is already packed with good goaltenders so there is not alot of places where he could be #1. Therefore it makes sense for a developpement point of view to send him back to the Q and have him play 50 to 55 games. Instead of 20 in the AHL. Every year ... each pro team has two goaltenders ... sometimes even 3. Every year the AHL and ECHL are packed with good goaltenders. But what happens is that every year ... many of those golatenders have their contracts expire and the team doesn't resign them because they don't see them in their plans. Every year ... all sorts of opportunities can open up. Why am I arguing with somebody that has no objectivity ...

Moncton should be shopping Riopel around at xmas.. with his insane start and it being a Mem Cup year.. what a package you might get in return for him
Go with your kids and build to the next 2 seasons.....

I disagree...if you use your extra picks wisely, you might be able to get a good playoff run in this year, giving all your kids experience...
I see Moncton as being similar to SJ last year, in that they probably aren't ready, but definitely have the framework to be a team that surprises (especially in the playoffs)...

Goaltending and disciplined play can take you a long way in the playoffs. With Rio in nets I really think with a few minor tweaks we could go fairly deep. 3rd round is a definate possibility.

That wouldn't be a fair trade for Moncton...with how Rio has played, it would take at least 2 of the C's...
