The instigator rule isn't new.

The automatic suspension (or code 4, accumulating leading to suspensions), is new - I have to admit, I still don't have a clear understanding of exactly how the rule reads, but the effect is to more heavily penalize a player (and a coach in some circumstances) that "goes after" another player. Again - there is a difference (to me) between an enforcer dishing out payback for a cheap shot, and a goon going after a player. The new rules (or the new interpretation or implementation of a previously existing rule) prevent both from happening - which leads to an increase in cheap shots.

I think the moncton coliseum is one of the quietest rinks i have ever been in, I am from Halifax originally and when i went to a game at the metro centre it was very loud and the fans were actually into the game. I am a very big wildcats fan now and i tend to get into the game, and i actually feel like an outcast cheering for the amazing wildcats. We need noise and fun stuff going on in order for repeat visits by children and adults alike. If the moncton fans wanted quiet they should go to church instead.

The game is brutally boring... the Q brass are idiots for letting it continue. The last few weeks seem to have improved officiating wise... not as many stupid penalties. Two man system has to go... and bring back fighting FFS... especially for us fans that have a shitty team year after year after year after year........

Your right, we do have a quiet rink....we've always had a quiet rink and there is no signs for any change. I remember the Golden Flames, Hawks Calder Cup run and to this day the well majority of the playoff for the Cats was always quiet. This topic seems to get thrown around once or twice a year. We're a quiet crowd and probably always will be.

Part of the reason it's so quiet is that it's very much a white collar crowd.

Keep the noise down and you stay, make too much noise and you're out. We can't afford to disturb those fans who come to see the game and don't cheer, clap or even purchase food from the vendors. And for those who don't believe me, speak to Bill.

That reminds me of when we won the Q titile back in 06 and when the game ended the place went nuts and being in the front row was banging on the glass with my hands, the usher sprinted over me and told me to stop or I'd be ejected.....I thought it was a little silly but I guess like you said, that kind of behavior is not allowed.

The Wildcats organization likes to promote the games as wholesome family fun. They constantly flash "Make some noise" and promote going wild in the cage. When people do, they are chastised. IMHO like it or not, noise and fans cheering give a better experience. The kids love it. Your families would be more inclined to come back for more. It seems like the way this is going, the Cats could save themselves a pile of advertising money and forget about anyone "going wild in the cage".

While the atmosphere will never be that good for random regular season games in Moncton it's not as bad as it used to be. How soon we forget the days of canned "GO CATS GO" chants over the PA system or some guy with a microphone trying to get fans to cheer. Now THAT was a terrible atmosphere.
Someone said that it's not good for the majority of playoff games and I beg to differ with that. Game 7 against Halifax in '07 was electric, the entire '06 playoff run had a great atmosphere, the games against Drummondville and Rouyn in '05 were good as were most of the games in the '04 run.
If you're seeking a really bad atmosphere at a playoff game look no further than Games 1 and 2 against Rimouski in '99. The Coliseum was practically empty for both games and the atmosphere made it feel like exhibition games more so than playoff games. I wouldn't hesitate to call those two games and that series in general on the lowest points in franchise history.

Speaking of atmosphere, imagine going to a Wildcats (or SJ/HAL/CB/PEI) game after going to this:
Coliseum security can be really overzealous, but that said, they never approached anyone for just clapping, yet most fans here won't even do that... and they didn't before the new rules either.
Our building should be rocking every game... we have an exceptional hard-working team that routinely beats more teams with more raw talent... instead, fans are in a collective trance in 95% of the games, and half the crowd leaves with 11 minutes left in the third after the 50/50 draw.
If Maritime fans can only get excited and involved when there's a fight every 5 minutes, shouldn't there be a big push for LNAH expansion into Atlantic Canada?

I will say, being in an electric atmosphere is a lot of fun but unrealistic in Moncton. I was just recently at a Monday night football game and let me tell you, there isn't much you can do to stick out, its just that crazy there. Being high strung like myself, I find myself the only one jumping out of their seat sometimes which can be embarrassing.
Its not really anyone's fault directly, we're just a quiet bunch here, no big deal.
