Tough Question, Bourdon would be great but highly unlikely IMO eventhough Cats have contacted Huskies about his services.

I like our current top 6 ... I think if we are going to spend we are better to spend on a first line centre ... on D we need depth, we should be looking to add a 19 year old for a mid round pick who can serve as a #7 guy but could also be counted on to play top 6 in the event of an injury, like David MacDonald in 2005/06 ...

I think trading with BC this year would be too expensive as they would probably want the same type of package we got from them last year.

I think the top ones for me in terms of cost-return are...
1-Gervais
2-Lessard
3-Paris
Bordon would cost too much as Quebec and others are hot on his trail as they can't add a 20 yr old. Mallette or Bolduc could be plan B or C.

has there ever been a dman whose perceived trade value has risen so much in their 20 y/o season as Benoit Gervais?
this guy has been dealt around the league like a watered down Sebastien Bernier.. and he winds up in RN playing on the top unit with the best dman in the league IMO (Bourdon) and suddenly he's now on top of many people's wishlists ahead of guys like Lessard and Paris who were dealt for a kings ransom at 19
meanwhile Gervais was dealt foir Garnier at 19..... and Carey Price told us it was a good move lol
I always liked Gervais... felt he gave everything he had almost every night.. was hampered by injury..... but I am not fooled by his numbers this year...... he's not a guy to QB a PP and be a number 1 D.... he's more of a capable support guy

Not sure we need to trade to add depth on D - I haven't seen Bell play yet this year, but I thought Downe looked very good in the games he played - I could see him as #6 easily. If we're going to get a D, it would need to be a #1/#2 guy - I don't see the point in trading for anyone lower. |

Gervais is a good fit because I think we might be able to get him for a draft pick. We already have a #1 in Barberio, I think a #2 Gervais could be the guy. Lessard and Paris would cost more but have a bigger petigree. |

The other facet that many seem to want and I disagree with is defenceman. We are good the way we are. And Downey can be are number 8th guy in case we get 2 ds with injury at the same time.
To me the only D worth trading for in that list is Bourdon. And the fact that he will cost too much is more than enough to say that we don't need another D.
If we do need to trade, a 19YO quality foward for the right price would be what I would be looking for.
In all honesty staying put might be the best trade!!!

Lahey is a decent player who has his moments, but replacing him with an impact 20 year old is the most cost effective way for us to improve. As for the blueline, while Downe is a good prospect, do you relish the thought of him being thrown into key minutes in a playoff series? How about Bell? Because right now we are one injury away from that happening ... we need to add another d-man who can play right now at this level ... obviously adding an "A" level guy would help us most, but it would be expensive ... a "B" level guy would still cost maybe a 2nd round pick or a 16 year old prospect like Downe or O'Brien or Daoust - and would push Demitruk to the stands as a #7 guy ... and possibly cost us Lahey as well if he is a 20 year old - is the upgrade on the blueline so significant as to be worth a good prospect/pick, a hit to our forward depth (releasing Lahey), and a setback to Demitruk's development? Or are we better to add a "C" level guy, non-20 y/o, at a marginal cost to provide some depth, while spending our assets on a stud up front? |

The problem with the defense is Barberio and Gormley are carrying a big load. Barberio could get hurt and Gormley is only 16 and a rookie. Rookies usually hit a wall in early February their 1st year like Marchand and others did. It's a lot to ask from a 16 year old d-man to play 23-25 minutes including #1 PP and 1st pair. One of Gervais Paris or Lessard could eat up a lot of minutes and provide insurance on Barberio, reduce Gormley's responsibilities and give the Cats 7 quality d-men. Any of those 3 would be a pretty big upgrade over Leahy. |
