Speaking of that, didn't the Q deem that as "illegal" to have the dampers on the lights? I know Moncton always had, and still do, use it.

economic downturn, what downturn....Gatineau's making our renos look very mild as the ORGANIZATION is putting up 100% of the $28 MILLION for 2000+ more seats and boxes to Robert-Guertin Centre. WOW. Their capacity will also now be about 5,000
And as far as the dampers, I've never heard about their legality, not like I've looked anywhere to read such information. I just think the concept is neat.

Under the Olympiques’ plan, the new arena will be built around the old one, on Carillon Street, using the same foundation. The project is to start in May, once the Olympiques’ run in the 2009 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs ends. Interior work will be done only in the summer, stopping in time for the 2009-2010 hockey season, while exterior work would continue. The reconstruction is to be completed by October 2010. The original arena was built in 1957 at a cost of $500,000. (ottawa citizen)

I don't know exactly where the up front money is coming from, but it's my understanding that the city is paying back the 28 million + interest in the form of rent over a 20 year period, and will have ownership of the arena only after that time.

Why aren't they going after Federal funding ... all sorts of infrastructure money available ... Harper just tossed $1.3 billion at Quebec yesterday ... didn't he ?

Regardless, arena upgrades are always a nice thing.

It's all going to be done over 2 years... I can't remember what is being done when but we'll have the new clock in time for the new season.

according to the radio this week, the bathroom renovations are starting and will be ready for start of season but the added seats, boxes and the scoreboard aren't going to be done until after this season. That sucks about the scoreboard....another year of having to put up with the burnt out bulbs that no one replaces.

The bathroom renovations have been started since at least June 24th. I was there for SA's Grand March and they bathrooms behind section 7/8ish were gutted and re-tiled. Really, really nice and swanky looking. Long overdue.
Sucks about the scoreboard.
In certain sections, its almost impossbile to read the board due to the bulbs. Let's start a petition to have them replaced? haha.

My understanding is that the new clock will be ready for THIS year, depsite what the radio said. There were people working on the roof to fasten it (needed some upgrades to make sure it would hold). Also, someone pretty close to me did see our old clock being driven down Kings Road a few weeks ago.
