In case anyone is interested we have three former TITAN (Hodgson, Seymour and Clendenning) playing on Sportsnet right now. They are currently in the second intermission. A win or a one goal loss will put them in the final.

There are 4 persons in our family. All are UNB graduates. 3 of the 4 were involved in UNB athletics at the CLUB level. 2 of the 4 won a Canadian Championship and a 3rd won a Maritime University Championship. We are ALL pleased that UNB won another hockey championship! However, this sort of information does cloud the enthusiasm of 1 of the 4 of us. -There are 23 sports sponsored by the CIS including 11 for Women and 12 for Men. UNB presently operates 8 of the 23 ....Men's hockey, basketball, Volleyball and Soccer and for Women there are Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball and Swimming is mixed. -The Hockey team has an average age of 24+ or - and has 1 player or 2 who have not played Major Junior hockey and this is the RULE across Canada in the 2000"s. Back in the day, players out of high school had a place to play , you knew a good number of the players, they lived in Rez for a year or 2, they did not travel across Canada to play games and they did not represent 7 PROVINCES arriving from Junior or PRO with "scholarships". -Now, the phone rings regularly as UNB is canvassing for funds. -1975, Tuition is $587 and Room and Board is $925. 2003 we are at just below $ 6000 for each for a total of just below $12,000. Well that appears to have been an increase of 1000 % for Tuition as an example. Has anyone had a 1000% increase in SALARY since the mid '70's? -Never mind a description of STUDENT LOANS and STUDENT DEBT afeter 5 years. Oh yes, what about the 5 years of earning power that students forsake to CHOOSE a University education. ( and I am well aware that University is not the best choice for some but it is for others and one choice is not better than the other). -So we have a 24 age hockey team from 7 Provinces from a University where it costs the "regular" student $15000 per year with a small student loan and an average of $32000 student debt and NO sports at the Varsity level(anymore) sports like.....Womens hockey(NB has 30 teams), Cross Country Running(NB has 40-45 schools), Field Hockey(NB has 12 teams), Football(NB has 14-16 schools), Track and Field(NB has 25 schools), Rugby(NB has 20-25 schools), Baseball(NB has 20 schools) to name most of them. Oh yes, YEAH for the NB, NS, QUE, ONT, SASK, ALB, US(2 states) and PEI hockey players. I wonder what they do receive for an additional(after their Junior education money) help towards their education? Oh yes, the above mentioned clubs do receive some $$$help I believe but it is a far far cry from what the 8 VARSITY sports receive.
