I'm just curious to see how long everyone has been going/supporting the franchise.
Personally, my grandfather had season tickets for the Oilers, which he continued to puchase once the Eagles rolled in (with the exception of the Pepsi Islanders....I believe thats what they were called).
I went to almost every game during the 97/98 and 98/99 seasons. By 99/00, I went to maybe 3 games. From the 00/01 season to the 05/06 season, I went to a total of 1 game. In 06/07, I went to about half. The last two seasons (07/08 and 08/09), I've only missed about 6 games.
I've pondered season tickets this year, but, I'm skeptical on them. If you do the math, you really only save the price of 2.275 games (about 2 full games and a period...hahah), so, I don't feel like its worth it. Anyone have any thoughts that could persuade me otherwise?

Why do you need to be persuaded on a message board?
If you want a season ticket, or a flex pack, go buy one. Personally I don't buy either because #1 the expense is too much and #2 I won't attend every game. If you only plan on missing a few games, and want the same seat/area to sit in, then it's a no brainer.

I didn't start going to games until the 01/02 season. There hard work that season got me hooked. I'd say I went to about 12 games on average until 04/05 where I only got to about 6 or 7 give or take. Once the 06-07 season started I got back on track. I don't quite remember the number but anywheres between 15 to 20 games. I actually think that I miss more now since the league changed the schedule's for the games to be more on weekends. Can't miss the Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada. ( & Don Cherry too )

Like, to me, going to Oilers games with my grandfather was one of my favorite childhood memories.

My parents and I have had the same seats from day one of the Oilers, when I was in high school. I did not go to the Islanders but came back immediately when the Q came to town. Later, people in our row moved down so my wife could be added in (2002).
It is never a thought for me NOT to have a season seat, as I really like the seats I have.

If that's where you're trying to go with this thread christopher, I'll bite!
Been at the Eagles games since Day One in September 1997. First game was a beauty, 5-4 win over Rouyn-Noranda on Josh Dill's goal in the final minute. Also one of the best fights of the year to kick off the season, between Tommy Gagnon and Steeve Vandall.
Was at pretty much every game in 97-98. 98-99 I was playing both midget and high school hockey so I missed maybe 1/3 of the games that year due to my own hockey schedule. 99-00 I still missed some games with hockey but probably saw 80-85% of them. Those first three years I was at the vast majority of games, and as into em as anyone in the rink, but it wasn't until Year 4, 2000-2001, that I felt totally swept away by Eagles/QMJHL hockey. That was the first year I started travelling to see away games, and posting regularly on these boards, analyzing the team's every move.
00-01 I think I missed one game, same with 01-02. 02 was the most fun year yet, we had a wildly entertaining team (once they started playing to their potential, which took until December after an indifferent first few months) and of course went to the third round - first real taste of playoff success, and there was the classic series win over Halifax along the way.
02-03 I went away to university that year and missed all but 5 or 6 games. Good year to miss as it was a real "bare cupboards" year. 03-04 I came back to CBU for school, was back at every game, and of course like any other Eagles fan was excited beyond belief about the championship potential of that year's "stacked" team. Unfortunately we all remember how that turned out, awful year that almost feels like a mythical event that barely even happened. It's kind of a blur on the radar.
04-05 thru 06-07 were much better seasons as the team reclaimed a much better identity after losing their way in 03-04. 05 was a very fun year where the team finished above all expectations in what was supposed to be a long rebuilding year. It was very easy to be a really proud fan that year, and you didn't want to miss a game. 06 was a solid year in which we knew we weren't a true contender but still won most nights and Pavelec alone was worth the price of admission - what a clinic he put on that year. 06-07 we probably had our strongest team yet, and the team that had the best shot at a championship, and had they won Game 5 at home against Val d'or who knows - maybe a President's Cup banner would be hanging at C200. If there's any loss I don't think I've 100% gotten over yet as an Eagles fan, it's the blown 3-1 series lead against Val d'or. Still kind of can't believe that happened. In an interview this year, I remember Chris Culligan saying the exact same thing. Still though, 06-07 was a very fun year knowing we truly had the potential to win it all. From 05-07, I may have missed a total of two games.
07-08 I went away to media school in Halifax, and thereby missed most of the season, but still caught a few games on trips home and of course attended very proudly when they came to the Metro Center. The 08 team was a source of great pride for Eagles fans, as they may have been the overachieving story of the CHL that year. Awesome season.
Came home in the summer of 08 to work in radio here in CB, and part of my radio gig was doing reports from all the home games last year - so I was at every one but one - missed one game to attend my media school graduation. It wasn't a bad year but in spite of the team's fine record and the rarity with which they lost - sometimes it was the way they lost that bothered me, and made me wonder if we were really the contender many suggested we were. The Feb 13 10-2 loss to Drummondville was the reality check. That's when it became bluntly clear we were a secondary tier team, not a true contender. Still tho, this past season made it five years outta six the team won 40 or more games - not many CHL teams can say that. That trend could well continue this coming season, although it still remains to be seen if we have the depth at forward to be a true contender.
Ah and of course there was the Oilers. The source of some of the fondest childhood memories of our generation that grew up in Cape Breton, and for those who were adults at the time - it was the #1 social event on the Island.... THE place to be seen. I too have awesome memories of attending Oilers games with my parents and grandfather - it sure made the games even more fun when your grandfather also happened to be one of the most notorious characters and heckling voices in the rink! ;D ;D Even at 78 now, he's still going strong at Eagles games - his voice isn't as booming as it once was, and his comments aren't as cut-throat as before, but he's still at pretty much every game and still the voice of Sec 26. ;D
The Oilers games were classic, and the mere mention of some of the old names of the past - Van Allen, Currie, Haas, MacIver, Cowley, Podein, etc - can spark up an awesome conversation among a room-full of long-time CB hockey fans. Losing the Oilers was one of the saddest days of my childhood/teenage years. Will never forget the empty feeling after we lost our final regular season game in overtime to the Saint John Flames, missing the playoffs by a hair. However the pain of losing the Oilers was by far outweighed by the euphoria of the 1993 Calder Cup. Those playoffs were magic, everything the Oilers touched turned to gold, and I'll never witness a playoff performance again in my life like the one Bill McDougall put on that year. 26-26-52 in 16 games!!!! Please note how insane those numbers are!
Sydney and surrounding areas were absolutely electric during the 93 playoffs, something no hockey fan at the time will ever forget. Little did we know though that that season would also be a lesson in how rare a championship is, and how long the wait can be before the next one - if there will ever be a next one.
And let's not forget the year between the loss of the Oilers and the birth of the Eagles - 96-97 with the Cape Breton Jr A Islanders! A lot of fans were displeased with the big drop in calibre from the AHL, but I for one made the best of that year and went to probably 2/3 of the games and had a ball. It was easy to have a ball when that year had to be one of the biggest gong shows of 1990s hockey at any level! The amount of line brawls that year was insane. I can remember at least four at C200 alone that made pretty big splashes in the media, including of course the infamous Oct 1996 stick-swinging bloodbath vs Antigonish - without a doubt the most vicious hockey incident I've ever seen and likely ever will see. My friends and I were 14 at that time, and of course at that age nothing is cooler than fights, fights, and more fights - and man oh man that's what we got that season! The Islanders were an entertaining team as well, we drew by far the biggest crowds in the MJAHL, and had a great 7-game playoff series with the powerful Dartmouth Oland Exports. Led it 3-2 actually, before dropping Games 6 and 7. Game 7 had a score of something like 13-6... good old Jr A hockey!
To conclude this post......
. The CB Islanders-Antigonish Bulldogs brawl from fall 1996! It looks like nothing to start, but boy it gets ugly quickly.
The famous pre-game brawl vs Halifax in December 2000! The highest point of the CB-Halifax rivalry.
Possibly the most infamous incident in Eagles history - George Davis jumps into the Titan bench on national TV. Ridiculous atmosphere in the rink that night, but unfortunately this incident may have contributed greatly to firing up the Titan to knock us out soundly in rd 3 of that year's playoffs.
A ridiculous goal by Tomas Kapusta against Halifax in the CB Oilers days. The whole atmosphere on this video, and crowd reaction, seems to sort of sum up the essence of early 90s Oilers hockey! Also lots of other Oilers material on this video.
And of course, Game 5 of the 1993 playoffs and the celebration that ensued! Sidenote - so many people seem not to recall that Olaf Kolzig was in net for Rochester that game! Also note that the play-by-play man in this one is current Eagles' president Paul MacDonald.

Great post, deer! I really enjoyed reading that. Having moved a few times over the years and having teams that I cheered for move elsewhere, I'm envious of fans that can claim a long loyalty to their home team. I lived in Saint John and was a big fan of the AHL Flames then I moved to St. John's and after a year switched my loyalties to the Baby Leafs(Which was more logical anyway being a life-long Toronto fan!). Then the Baby Leafs left town so I got season tickets for the Fog Devils when they started and faithfully cheered them on over their three years before they too moved on. Now I'm in Halifax and trying to become a Moosehead fan(last year wasn't a great year for that!) It's fun to hear fan stories like this.

Eastcoastfan Where is your seat in Metro Center mind is in Section #26 top seat one.... Drop by and say hi...I always enjoy making new friends at games.. Thanks, Freddy! I'll do that! I was a few rows in front of Webber in Section 6 last season but I dropped back to the 15 game package this year and Section 6 was not available so we'll be in Section 4. Can't wait for the season to start!

There's nothing more enjoyable then cheering and chanting along with a bunch of people dressed in jerseys and banging on the glass.
