Although I was kidding in another Forum about cutting MacNeil, I also said that we would greatly miss Tesink.... After seeing Ward, Lapostelle, and Bernard fight tonight, my mind is quite a bit more at ease... Man, that was one hell of an uppercut by Ward! Could we have a recap on the fights please?

Sorry... I was not paying as close attention as I could have tonight... I know Ward, Lapostelle, and Bernard fought... the Ward fight started off pretty even, but towards the end, Ward got a couple of good shots in...
Lapostelle fight was also pretty even, but the bernard fight was just a shit show.... Bernard just seemed to be way too strong...with only a little over 5 minutes left, Bernard was given the 2:00 for a charge and 5:00 for fighting...
Not sure other than that. someone else could likely add more detail...

My thoughts:
I was very impressed with Bougeois tonight. He is a workhorse, especially on the pk.
Tonight was the first night that I watched Cuzner closely and I like him too. He has a lot of speed and isn't afraid to play physical despite his stature.
I agree about Greer. He makes me uneasy as well. Few times he turned the puck over and fanned on a pass as well. Not everyone is perfect and I guess what's why he'll be a 5-6th D.
Great fights. Ashton absolutely destroyed. Kid is tough as nails.

"Problem with tonight is, based on the Mooseheads' roster, I"m not sure if the Eagles are looking REALLY good, the Moose are looking REALLY bad, or a little from column A and a little from column B.... "
I think the eagles have one of the best teams and will be very hard to beat if all 7 guys come back from NHL camps. I was really impressed by Cuzner tonight. He was all over the place and hitting everything in sight. The kid definitely plays with heart. He should make the team. I thought Greer played better tonight. He had a couple nice plays and I didn't think he made to many mistakes tonight. Adam and MacNeil looked possessed. Holden had a great game and so did Roy. Both tenders allowed one goal apiece and I thought both had great rebound control. Stinz was fast tonight, if he stays healthly he will be a spark plug. I really like Bernard. He is going to be a fan fav. (I think he already is) Overall very impressed with the eagles tonight, I know the moose had some rookies in the lineup but man oh man this eagle team looks powerful. I am not sure if they are a championship calibre team yet but it may only take one or two more players.( again if our guys come back from their respective camps.)

Looks like Knotek, Cheremetiev, Brunet and Amyot (top 2 forwards and D) plus Metcalfe and Randell not dressed for the Moose. If we get a recap of some of the Moose player that would be great. Ouch, took that one on the chin. Oh well, forget it and move on. I'm sure there will be a few more come regular season tho. Yeah with a vet CB lineup and a Moose D the consists of a one 16, four 17 and one 18 year old you kind of expect that. Heck the second Moose goal was scored on the PP by a 16 year old set up by and 16 and 17 year old... Russell obviously needed to see the guys fighting for the last couple spots.

I think you're OK. The Moose were definitely missing some key pieces, however, the lineup was twice what they dressed in PEI (who dressed most of their starters) and in Moncton (who were only missing a few all-stars). Halifax lost both of those games, but they were respectable. This team will have to overachieve to be competitive ... doesn't appear to have happened tonight.

Halifax was missing Cheremetiev (20), Knotek (19), Grant (19), and Randell (18) up front, and Brunet (20), Amyot (19), and Metclafe (19) on defence. Probably not enough to make for a 7 goal spread, but they definitely showed up to this gun fight with a knife.

A couple of quick comments ; - I thought Greer played a lot better . - Do you think Brodeur and Bernard arn't heading to their respective Camps with a little renewed confidence ? The same can be said for Adam and Ward . - Yep ! Cuzner had a good game last night , I just can't help but think that 4th line energy players should be a little bigger though . - Lesieur has got the Early look of a true Power Forward , I think the kid oozes potential . - Not just Deveaux to Lewiston but apparently McCarron has received calls from R. Noranda and Drummondville . I hear though that the Kids focus has now shifted to school . He apparently is leaning towards one of the JR B Teams on the Island. - Nice to see Season Ticket Prices stay the same . - That was some brutal ice out there last night . - a note to C200 ........the concerts are over , put Fleurys Banner back in its proper place instead of folded up sitting on a beam up there !

Great fights. Ashton absolutely destroyed. Kid is tough as nails. Guillaume Pelletier is a decent sized guy, but he's definitely not a fighter. Kudos to him for having the balls to fight Bernard. However the outcome was pretty predictable. At least he didn't run from him like Neil Smith did against Cormier all those times

There is no way in hell that I'd drop the mits with Ashton. Pelletier looked VERY dizzy skating to the box. Fights like that scare the hell out me.

Decent night at the rink, although the game was pretty much over before it started given the disparity between the lineups iced. As a result there were long stretches where there wasn't much atmosphere in the small crowd (back to school took its toll on attendance it seems). However there were several beauty goals, and three solid fights, that woke the fans up and drew some cheers.
The first goal was a lovely give-and-go between Nick MacNeil and Taylor MacDougall, couldn't have drawn it up much better.
Stinziani's third goal was a highlight reel-calibre individual effort. Cruised into another gear and blew by the Moose defenceman (#32 I believe, Steve Gillard), before ripping one into the top shelf from a very tight angle.
Both of Brodeur's goals were bullets, the second one being especially nice - right under the crossbar from the right point. I've always thought he had a nice shot that he ought to use more often, not sure if he ever knew quite how good his shot was. Maybe after last night he'll tee it up more frequently.
Unfortunately I missed the first fight, between Michael Ward and Sawyer Hannay, but heard that the uppercut was featured over and over on our brand new reply screen.
The second scrap saw Garrett Clarke of the Moose go after Patrick Lapostelle after he laid out Charles Bety with a questionable hit (Bety wasn't near the puck). Very good scrap, lasted a while and lots of punches thrown and landed. Pretty even bout, probably a slight edge to Clarke, and props to him for sticking up for a teammate. Props as well to Lapostelle for handling himself well in what I'm told was his first-ever hockey fight.
The third fight maybe shouldn't have happened, as there's a pretty ridiculous size difference between Ashton Bernard and Guillaume Pelletier. Pelletier, in the heat of the moment, dropped em with Bernard after a blatant high hit laid by the big Eagles forward. The new Moosehead predictably got destroyed, but thankfully didn't appear to be seriously hurt, and has to be given all the credit in the world for having the cahunas to take on a guy like Bernard, when he himself isn't even a fighter!!
I totally agree with those who thought Cuzner had his best outing yet. He was first to most pucks even if it meant getting nailed in the corner against much bigger guys. Very gritty and "aware" game by the little guy... might have gotten a game star if it wasn't a 9-2 type game where tons of teammates filled the scoresheet.
It was my first time seeing Greer in an Eagles uni - he seems a little small for a defenceman, and his play looks a bit erratic, but let's see how he comes along. I know he's got talent, having seen him in his first training camp in Halifax two years ago, right after he'd been picked in the 2nd round of the Q draft. Whether or not he's been ruined by only playing 23 games the past two years, time will tell I guess.
For Halifax, I didn't notice too many guys cuz it's hard in a game with no name-bars when you're trying to keep an eye on your own guys. Of the rookies, I liked Brent Andrews, Konrad Abeltshauser, and Carl Gelinas. Andrews and Gelinas worked well together all game, found Andrews knows how to move the puck and make the right play quickly. Abeltshauser is a big guy with surprisingly good mobility and a decent shot, seems like a good all-around pickup. Another rookie, Jamie Bishop, had a beauty powerplay goal - one-time slapper that rang off the right post and in past Olivier Roy, who otherwise was toying with Moose shooters. And I've always been a Charles Bety fan, good two-way forward who has grit too. Neither goalie was great, particularly Corbeil.
That's about it - bring on the real season I guess!
