That's usually what happens in the final home preseason game - often the lineups for those games are stronger (sometimes on both sides) than the ones we see the first couple of weeks of the season. Kind of drives me nuts actually that the Q starts its season in the middle of NHL training camps, leaving us with a badly watered down product the first couple of weeks.... yet fans are still paying the full ticket prices. Why not just start a couple of weeks later when everyone can start with a full roster, save the odd couple of players who receive an extremely long pro look (think Fleury his first year in Pittsburgh)?
Anyway it should be a good game tonight, if Halifax puts up enough of a challenge. I say this based on their very poor squad last year, poor enough it pretty much killed the CB-Hali rivalry... at least in the games at C200. Hopefully the Moose are a bit stronger this year and will give us a good go tonight. Obviously I don't care who wins an exhibition game, just want to see good, tightly-contested, and most importantly - intense hockey.
The Post article also mentions Greer. Honestly I've seen so little of him that I've no idea if he has any upside or not. But you'd have to think he's going to be pretty motivated in these next two preseason games against the Moose, the team that basically wasted two years of his development sitting him in the press box. 23 games played over two years is pathetic - I don't know what kind of way that is to bring along a player. Hopefully the kid will be highly motivated to show his former team they may have been wrong for stringing him along like that, and it'll result in his having two solid games.
And a final pre-game note... Halifax has a new dman in their camp named Spencer Metcalfe. They picked him up from Gatineau and he's been doing a bit of scrapping I hear, trying to make the team in that kind of role even though last year fighting was nearly extinct in the games I saw. This makes me wonder if he'll consider extending an invitation to Ashton Bernard? A good showing against our new heavyweight (if you can even use that term in a league where there's no fighting anymore) might cement his spot on Halifax's team. Is it wishful thinking on my part to think there's a chance those two could go toe-to-toe?

Is there a logical reason for this? I think the WHL and OHL both start almost a week later (on the 17th).

Metcalfe is a bit undersized to be fighting the top guys but if you search youtube you'll see he had two decent fights with Bernard last year.... a big reason why I think the Moose got him after you got Bernard. The last preseason game he went after two guys that took runs at other Moosehead player. He doesn't seem like he'll be a goon but doesn't really look like he'll back down if given a reason to fight.
Greer has skill. Came into camp as a 16 year old and was great one-on-one simply because he was a great skater. His problem was size and strength... he looked solid until the forward would just chip the puck by him and Greer looked very nervous going into the corners. He was undersizded and didn't play much as a 16 year old. At 17 he was injured in camp and I think had a health issue leading up to camp that kept him from bulking up. A slow start with injury and still undersized resulted in them just not giving him the icetime. I think he put on about 10 pounds for this year which was needed and can skate just not sure about the grit, strength, board play for him to be a Q Dman. This year we just had too many new young D for it to make any sense to have him on the team like Matheson, like McDonald and maybe even like MacDonald.
Interested in seeing how the Moose lineup will do versus the vet CB lineup... I expect the Moose goalies to get a workout. The Moose want to finish their cuts tomorrow so it's likely Dmen 7-8-9 are dressed and forward 14-15-16. I suspect they'll give those guys good icetime as well so for it to be a "tightly contested" game the goalies and the vets for the Moose better be solid. Don't know who the Moose are dressing tonight among the vets.
Not sure how the rivalry will go this year and to non-Moose fans the team may not look any better/pick up any more or many more points then last year. Just instead being in a rebuilding year and playing guys Pender, Bona, MacAskill on D and not developing youth they'll likely have three 17 year olds regularly playing on D and a group of good young forwards as well. Too much wasted development time last year... Matheson, McDonald, Greer, O'Brien, Dunn are all guys that would have been 18-19 this year but didn't figure into this year's team.
Fans seem positive about this year... just not sure what the one ice results will be.

Im very excited to see what Halifax's young defence looks like . There seems to be some hype around it this year and im looking forward to seeing guys such as Bishop , Hannay and Gillard.
Should be close game. Interesting to see how the Eagle vetern squad matches up against a younger Moose squad

Yah, I always wondered that too but I don't really mind. I actually like the league starting earlier than the other two. As for the game it should be a good look at all the main vets before they head off to there individual NHL team camps. I will not be making it to the game but as far as the preseason goes, I don't get to see much anyway. Oh, & is this Greer guy actually making the team? (because it sure sounds like it).

I believe it has something to do with CEGEP registration deadlines. For pretty much all 17 year olds and some 16 and 18's they need to be enrolled in their CEGEP program by late August. Starting camp when the OHL and WHL start would give teams very little time in evaluating these players.

Looks like Knotek, Cheremetiev, Brunet and Amyot (top 2 forwards and D) plus Metcalfe and Randell not dressed for the Moose. If we get a recap of some of the Moose player that would be great.

Ouch, took that one on the chin. Oh well, forget it and move on. I'm sure there will be a few more come regular season tho.

I didn't attend the game but I do notice a 17yr old rookie that went 10-2 in the faceoff circle and led the forwards in hits.....in our "veteran" lineup no less...

We can say all we want about Cuzner but this kid his earning his way on the team. I was in Moncton for their 1st game and he was one of CB 's better players. They should stick with this kid and be patient with him.

Great game tonight... a good ol' fashion beat down.
Although I was kidding in another Forum about cutting MacNeil, I also said that we would greatly miss Tesink.... After seeing Ward, Lapostelle, and Bernard fight tonight, my mind is quite a bit more at ease... Man, that was one hell of an uppercut by Ward!
Nice fire power up front with MacNeil, Adam, and Brodeur with 2 goals apiece... Ellis with 3 assists... but I'm still not warmed up to Greer... too many misplays and turnovers... makes me nervous.
Problem with tonight is, based on the Mooseheads' roster, I"m not sure if the Eagles are looking REALLY good, the Moose are looking REALLY bad, or a little from column A and a little from column B....
any other thoughts on the game?

New the game was going to be a mismatch before it started with the rookie laden lineup halifax went with. Cuzner had a great game, never takes a shift off, constantly pressuring the puck. Thought Sawyer's hit on Shaw was a good one. Not sure why Ward went after him, but I guess thats the way it is in todays game. Halifax had no answer for the Adam line and there D sure had there share of troubles.
