Not getting as much buzz as I think it deserves - maybe because everyone is afraid to jinx it what with COVID and all ... Keith Yandle is poised to tie Doug Jarvis' NHL ironman record of 964 games this evening, and break the record tomorrow. Amazing accomplishment - Yandle has had a long and dependable NHL career - fell short of true superstar status, but very nice career nonetheless. I still remember the excitement when the Cats added him just before the start of the 2005/06 Mem Cup season, the media coverage of him arriving at the airport ... and then seeing him play for the first time and instantly realizing, holy shit, this guy is WAY better than anyone was expecting - a true thoroughbred at the junior level, he looked like a man among boys ... one of those guys who just popped as bigger, faster, better than everyone else on the ice. What a show he and Radulov treated us to in the 2005/06 season. I hope someday the Cats manage to bring Yandle back to Moncton so that he can be properly honoured in some fashion for his impact on the team, and his overall career. I dont think it was appreciated how lucky we were at the time to see players like Crosby, Yandle, Radulov all dominate like they did within such a short period of time.

Agreed - those were three very special players ...

Yandle has been good for a long time ... since 2009, when his streak started, he is 3rd in scoring among NHL d-men, trailing only Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns. He also has 10 40 plus point seasons, which leads all NHL d-men in that timespan.

And to further add to the amazingness of the accomplishment - the past two seasons have been in a COVID environment ... this season 75% of NHL players have tested positive ... including, in December, Yandle's roommate Kevin Hayes ... so clearly some pretty good luck involved ...

5 Q guys on defence? Nahh, must be a mistake - Hockey Canada would never do that

Y'know... if I time traveled back to 2009 and told my past self Brandon Gormley would be a member of Team Canada's 2022 olympic hockey team, past me would have believed me. This guy was once one the most highly touted defense prospects to come out of the Q... I think in his NHL Draft year it would have been a very believable claim that he'd eventually suit up for Team Canada. I just don't think any of us would have guessed the circumstances.

He seemed to lack pace in his game with the NHL game getting quicker.

He only played 2 games so I’m not even sure Brendan Bornstein really qualifies as an alumni but he was practicing with the Leafs today, which has to be a cool experience for a university kid. It’ll probably be the highlight of his hockey career.

Gormley has been removed from Team Canada's roster and put on the reserved list. He's been battling an injury and his Olympics are in jeopardy.

wow I just realized how good of a rookie season Spence is having in the AHL. LA's pipeline is so deep...

Nothing amazing but Spence had his first career assist. Simply bank pass to get the puck out of his zone. First of many I'm sure. He played almost 24 minutes out of 65.
