As of now, there are 7 Island natives still in Rocket camp.
Clow, Allan Deighan, Parker Wright, Brendon DesRoches, Nathan Doyle, Chris Paynter, Gregory Walker, Geoff
How many Islanders will be a Rocket this season, and will this be the most on the team since they arrived on PEI?

Its not new that a student goes to school and still gets released, but I do think that Street and MacLean are here to stay. I think that there should be one D cut if they are playing Main back on D and one forward released.

BTW...how many players do the Rocket normally carry? I see other teams with a roster of 23, but PEI's roster last year was 24

lots of rosters still at 25-26 players until guys come back from camps
and yes this will definitely be the highest number of Islanders on the roster
other Islanders who are making their Q debuts this year include Mike MacIsaac in Drummondville, Jordan Knox in Saint John, Travis McIsaac in Victoriaville

Anticipation high for Rocket rookies The Guardian
Forgive Summerside natives Nathan DesRoches and Brendon Wright for taking a breath after reaching the P.E.I. Rocket roster.
Once they exhale, however, the real works begins.
That labour starts Friday when P.E.I. opens the 2007-08 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season against the Halifax Mooseheads. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
It’s the first game for both squads. P.E.I. earned 10 points versus the Herd on a 4-2-1-1 record in the season series last year, but was 0-2 in pre-season games against Halifax.
DesRoches and Wright, both ex-midget AAA Charlottetown Islanders, are part of P.E.I.’s 25-man list. With only 20 players allowed to dress per game, the pair won’t know until Friday morning whether they’re in the lineup.
But if the call comes, the rookie forward tandem is ready, albeit with a little help for Wright, 17.
“I’m nervous every game, but that one will be twice as bad. I'll have to take some Pepto (Bismol) before that game,’’ said Wright, who played midget AAA last season.
DesRoches, a mainstay on the MJAHL’s Summerside Western Capitals roster last year, is more philosophical than pharmaceutical. “(There will be) a lot of excitement. I’m sure there’ll be a few phone calls going out. You can’t go out there and do too much, you just got to play your game,’’ said the 17-year-old DesRoches after practice Tuesday.
At first glance, the likelihood Wright, an invitee to Rocket camp, and DesRoches, a ninth-round pick in the June Q draft, would secure roster spots seemed gloomy.
This pre-season, Q teams could invite up to 70 players but had to cut back to a maximum 50 by the first trade deadline on Aug. 27, however, the Rocket opened camp with 44 players, including 18 returning from last year, so few spots were open.
But here’s the silver lining — in an earlier story, head coach Yanick Jean said the lean camp meant only athletes with a real shot at the team were invited.
“We’ve obviously pretty excited because we’re both from P.E.I. We both worked pretty hard in camp and felt that we proved ourselves,’’ said DesRoches.
“I didn’t think I was going to make it,’’ said Wright, “there’s so many good players here. I just came and worked hard.’’
While DesRoches is proud of this step in his hockey career, he understands it wasn’t achieved alone.
“We’re both pretty good friends so I know (Brendon’s) parents (Al and Erika Wright) definitely support him and my parents have been there for me all through hockey,’’ said DesRoches of his parents Steven and Vanda. “There’ll be a lot of friends and family there (Friday) for sure.’’
And Wright agrees.
“My dad’s a big part of why I’m here. I wanted to play junior A in Summerside. I wanted to leave early because I didn’t think I would make it, but he told me to stay with it and see what would happen.’’
The pair joins five other Islanders, including Charlottetown’s Geoff Walker and Chris Doyle, Freetown’s Allan Clow, Albany’s Greg Paynter and Kensington’s Parker Deighan on the roll.
Islanders make up 28 per cent of the roster.
Halifax’s opening-night roster should include include Montrose’s Colby Pridham, an invitee to Tampa Bay’s rookie camp, and Winsloe’s Logan MacMillan, a first-round Anaheim pick at the NHL draft in June.
Walker returns from Toronto rookie camp today, as does Pierre-Luc Lessard, from Ottawa’s rookie camp, while Morrison, an Anaheim pick (fifth round) this year, lands back on P.E.I. Thursday.

Whatever happened to Jean's "Frenchmen" bias that I've heard about so often in the last couple of years? Seems like it's been a "good hockey player" bias that he's had all along...

Whatever happened to Jean's "Frenchmen" bias that I've heard about so often in the last couple of years? Seems like it's been a "good hockey player" bias that he's had all along... There never was such a bias, that much was always obvious to any reasonable, objective person. The bias was the other way around - those claiming the coach was favoring French-speaking players were the biased ones, displaying their true colors. In the 4+ years that this team has been on the Island, I've never seen ANYTHING to suggest that the so-called "French-English divide" was of any relevance whatsoever to this team's players, coaches or management, on and off the ice.....nor to its fans, except for a few. Some people chose to see what they WANTED to see, and played the race card. As if this team didn't have enough problems!

agrred there never was a french-english bias
we've had a very heavy local roster for the past few years
i do still think some local flavor in management would be the best move this team has ever made.. but i don't believe there is an anti english bias keeping it from happening

Agreed on all accounts. I'm just wondering what ever happened to the people that were willing to shout that from the hilltops in years past. I can't remember who it was exactly, but I'm sure they wouldn't be as willing to anymore.
Look at our top FWs:
Morrison Walker Latal Doyle Kana
Not one French-speaking player in the bunch. Seems like this French bias was as stupid a thought as most of us realized.

Would also help if someone from management walked around the rink once in a while and spoke with the fans.
