That is no longer allowed. New rule last year stated that only draft picks can be exchanged at a later date. All player transactions must take place on the spot. It is allowed, it's just not allowed to be announced. It's happened a lot and will continue to happen a lot. It happened with Brannon, everyone knew that deal was in place. DonKoharski is correct, my mistake. But the Brannon deal was done before the rule.

doesnt matter whether roster players are involved or not.. time has come for Savard to realize you gotta shit or get off the pot sometime... cant always deal problems or draft picks and ever expect to ice a contending team... sacrifice a bit of the future before there is no future to worry about

It is allowed, it's just not allowed to be announced. It's happened a lot and will continue to happen a lot. It happened with Brannon, everyone knew that deal was in place. DonKoharski is correct, my mistake. But the Brannon deal was done before the rule. Even if the Brannon deal was done before the rule came in ... the Brannon deal does not apply as it is not a "conditional" deal. The rule came in to eliminate the type of deal that Moncton and VD did where IF Bourdon returned at 19 Moncton sent Samson and Goulet to VD. That was all "conditional" on Bourdon returning. Moncton has another conditional deal out there that came in before the rule ... IF Marchand plays in the Q at 20 then Moncton gets VD's 1st in 2009 ... conditional on Marchand returning. Brannon to Moncton was not condional on anything ... it was just a delayed part of the deal and nothing even had to happen for it to kick in. They have not eliminated those types of deals. The new rule tries to eliminate Players (like Samson) being involved in a conditional deal such as this ... as the player has to worry about whether or not the other player is going to return. They only allow picks now to be exchanged as part of the conditions. But its easy to get around ... instead of Samson and Goulet to VD if Bourdon returns to the Q ... they would have to say a 1st and 2nd to VD if Bourdon returns to the Q ... but since its draft picks the deal can be completed immediately and not have to wait for the trade period. Then at the next trade period ... in the Bourdon case it would be Christmas ... Moncton and VD structure a new trade ... totally separate ... in which they send Samson and Goulet to VD for the 1st and 2nd that Moncton sent over earlier. All the rule does is force another step to get around it.
