We're sitting at 1 for 20 on the power play and have given up two short handed goals.
Jean is experimenting with Morrison at the point but so far it has been disastrous. Two short handed goals and he got beat a couple times last night. Morrison's skill is up front and the opposition will pick him apart on the point. He can't play the angles when he has to defend. He knows how to use them to attack but got caught several times when the opposition was breaking out or clearing the puck. He'll produce more up front.
We've got to develop a quarter back on D. I'd be curious to see Bryan Main back there. He's a two way player who would be able to jump up on the rush when needed and solid enough that you would not have to worry about getting beat badly if the puck turns over.
Southhorn is another prospect. He came a long well last year and I expect to see him grow this year. I'd rather work on developing his game at this point than have Morrison trying to take on this role.

We have no QB on D.........
As much as most disliked Grags last season....his effort anyhow, boy, could we use his skill back their this season.
I agree that Mo is not suited to be on the point. I would go with combo of Southy, Doyle and Lessard.
If Jean is going to use a FW on the back end......let Doyle handle that, at least he has a cannon of a shot, something Mo does not have.

Like I said in the game thread, we need a PP QB. And if we want to contend this season we can't think of developing from within. Southorn might be ready for that role next season, but not for a contending team this season.
I still think Drew Paris is the best option, as Drummondville are a team that is likely rebuilding this season so he'd likely be available at the right price. He's also 19, so we'd not be out a 20 spot if we got him and there are just not a lot of 20 year old defenceman that fit the bill of what we need. Plus he'll probably be back next season. Save the 20 spot for a FW.

agreed Morrison on the point not a great option.. I don't think I wanna see Doyle back there either... he does have a cannon but it's still a risky proposition.. especially with a very bad habit of passing to the wrong side of the shooter and/or in their skates that I noticed last night
I'd like to see Southorn tried there until a possible trade could be made to acquire someone like Paris
Morrison should be setting things up from the sidewalls

Morrison has made at least one big mistake a game on the point and should be taken out of there.

There is no reason why the Rocket don't have a puck carrying defenseman this season as Savard had every opportunity to acquire one before this season started. But this goes back to not looking at the big picture, not planning ahead to the next season and also relying on the "wait until Xmas to make a trade to see what our needs are". This should have been addressed as early as last season. They knew last season there was a good chance that Gragnani wouldn't be back, so why didn't they make a trade last season with that in mind? They had every opportunity to do so.
In the last year they traded Hawes, Boutin, Haddad and Levesque for picks that aren't of any help this season and a 20 year old that wouldn't be on most team's rosters. They could have even thrown in Doucet from last year also. I like him and he did a great job with the Rocket but packaged in a trade he could have been used to get us help for this year. Imagine one or two trade packages that includes but not limited to: Hawes, Levesque, Boutin, Haddad, Gragnani and Doucet. I think out of them players they could have gotten a puck moving defenseman that has experience, which is what the Rocket also need right now, and perhaps even a top 6 forward for this year.
That's not looking at it with the benefit of hindsight, that is just poor asset management at the time and not planning ahead for the following season.

1 for 7 on the PP tonight Vs the Foggies.
At one time, Jean had 5 FWs on the PP.......it was just for one PP shift, but that shows how much we need a PP QB back there.

What do the Rocket give up to land a PP QB or what would they be willing to give up? Have to factor in if they are/want to add a top 6 forward. That's 2 big holes to fill come December. Players like that are not going to be cheap at the Xmas trading period.
