You can't retire numbers for a franchise that's only 8 or 9 years old. It just doesn't make sense.
If you retire numbers that early in a franchise, you set a precedent for what constitutes getting your number retired. You mentioned 3 players in the short history of the Rocket. 3 players in 9 years means that you're looking at one for every three years. You'll have no numbers left to pick from at that rate.
To me a player should have an excellent junior career, playing with one team for at least 2 full seasons, and then have a good solid pro career before deserving the honor. None of these guys fit the bill yet.

It'd be nice if the Rocket would do that for some of our former players/leaders/captains at times (Lali, Bureau, etc.) I know and I don't know why they don't do it. I know when you walk into the KC Irving Center in Bathurst and the first thing you see when you walk into the arena part is the banners of Lemieux, Bossy, etc and that has impressed me everytime I walked into the place. I know that LGM takes alot of heat for some of the things he has done, but he does that part right by honoring former players for their past contributions to the team. I also like the Wildcat's Wall Of Fame as it still honors players even without retiring their numbers. The Rocket have a bit of a display upstairs outside the Rocket office but not many people go up that way. They should have it in a place where it is noticeable to people, but once again that is our PR department not knowing what people want to see.

Not numbers just number and I think (if it actually dose happen tonight) it will be the last one for a while to come or at least I hope so I don't want having your number retired being a cheep thing and by no way dose Brophys number do that. I'm not sure what you mean by not enough history why do you need a certain amount of history to honor a grate Captain if so what is the exact amount. Doesn’t this build history having every incoming player know who he was and what he done and what they should strive to be? As for the one playoff game that’s irrelevant (but that one win did come in our first year while Brophy was captain ) Every team will do these things differently but I really don't see time as an issue.

I think Brennan and Allard are both still in Buffalo. Yes, still in Buffalo... actually, Buffalo plays an exhibition game tonight... I wonder if the two will dress? Anyways, that's just speculative thought, but it is off topic. I notice a number of you Rocket fans calling for a split with us and saying that we'll drop the first and win the second. If there is a split (and I don't think there will be... Foggies sweep this series), then I think it will be the other way around with St. John's taking game one and the Rocket game two. No way the boys are losing the home opener. Of course, we won't know until around 9:30 tonight (9pm in PEI). If I'm wrong I shal come prepared to eat crow!

Someone should raise the "retiring numbers" debate in one of the off topic areas. I think the topic holds great potential for debate.

Wright and Boland just went.
Perhaps a slight edge to Boland (more shots landed).......but both were just throwing shots toe to toe.
Good show from 17yr old Wright.

1-0 Rocket after the 1st period.
Missed the 1st 5 min or so, but from what I've seen, Gelinas has been sharp for the Rocket when needed.
