As we all know, the Rocket PP has been struggling so far. 5 PP goals on 57 chances. Walker with 2 Kana with 2 Doyle with 1 A PP% of 8.8%............... Unsure what needs to get done to improve the PP.......but I hope that Jean leaves Mo off the point. Use Doyle back their if they get a 5 on 3, but if not, just go with two dman. The Rocket PK is at 83.3%. I noticed during the last game here against the Remps that Jean was using a "new" PK set up. It's the first time that I've seen him use it anyhow....... When the Remps would leave their own zone, the Rocket would be lined up in a 1FW-2D-1FW diamond style. .........the FW who was hanging back would eventually sweep into the middle and pressure the puck carrier..... Anyone else take notice of this?

Great Thread Topic
Another interesting stat on special units is short handed goals. We have 4 in 66 short handed situations.
Morrison 2 (Devils, and Moose) Latal 1 (Devils) Doyle 1 (Dogs)
So not only is the PK effective on defense but so far this season it has generated almost as much offense as the PP, Pretty sad.
On the PK they are able to pressue the puck more than even strength. This is why they are at 83% on the Pk and have caused enough turn overs that they have 4 shorties.
On Friday against the Remparts the power play looked better. They played two D, Clow looked particularly good on the point. He moved the puck quick.
If the team could improve their passing game, quick and on the stick the PP would really improve. Too often they are so slow moving the puck that the open man is covered when the puck arrives or they get caught looking around and make a rushed pass that misses the target.

Hockeydog, thats a TOTALLY inaccurate statement. Clow played very well Friday night....made very few mistakes and was one of the better D. It was Saturday night that he had a rough night. He had the turnover that caused the first goal, and after that he was having a rough nite.
He made excellent decisions on the powerplay Friday night.

Unsure what needs to get done to improve the PP.......but I hope that Jean leaves Mo off the point. Use Doyle back their if they get a 5 on 3, but if not, just go with two dman. First get Morrison off the point, any coincidence that Morrison doesn't have any pp goals so far? Jean did this on Friday and this seemed to have worked better where they went 2-6 on the pp, but then he goes back to it on Saturday and they go 0-6. Genius at work on that one. Second is move the puck around and get the other team moving. This goes back to since day one that Jean has been here, they slow things down too much and give the other team a chance to get into position to block the shot or close off the passing lanes. Move the puck quicker to get the other team chasing the puck rather than set up for it. Again they were doing more of this on Friday and went back to the same-old-same-old on Saturday. Shoot more. Part of this goes back to my second point of getting the other team moving out of position and creating opportunities for a clear shot. But alot of times when they do get a chance for a clean shot they either fake the shot and pass to the other point, pass it to the guy in the corner or they don't have someone creating traffic in front of the net. Change the power play up. They have the same power play as they did last year and the year before when they had Gragnani quarterbacking the power play and it has also become predictable. It's almost automatic that when they get the puck at the point the very first play is always going to be a pass. One game we sat up in the stands and before the play actually happened we were pointing out where the puck was going to go and what was going to happen next. That's just a bunch of fans being able to see that, imagine what the opposing coaches are picking up.

I agree with everything said here
also don't like how Jean's PP setup involves basically having 3 men on the point.... create more down low

Especially, especially, especially considering we have a bunch of guys who can grind it out along the boards.... Latal, Kana, Walker, Doyle... MacLean someday. cb I agree with everything said here also don't like how Jean's PP setup involves basically having 3 men on the point.... create more down low
